cd burning services?

I just purchased an iPod for my father, who has hundreds of CDs scattered about the house. Neither he nor I is going to sit around burning all of these CDs to MP3s, since that would take (almost) countless hours. His CD drive burns at about 8x, so for 300 CDs that’s still almost 40 hrs of burning. Is there a service either online (that I could ship to) or in major cities (we’re near NYC) that will take a large number of CDs and burn them to MP3 for a fee?

You want to rip the CDs not burn them. Burning CDs is making CDs that can be played on a CD player. It will greatly help your search if you get the terms correct.

This is an old review of such services.

moving right along, let’s do our best to forget this, folks.

You can set iTunes to rip automatically when a CD is inserted and eject it when done. This way, you don’t have to sit with it all day long - just swap CDs every few minutes or whenever you’re nearby. This can also be done while you’re online with most PCs - older and slower PCs might not have enough capacity to rip and think about anything else at the time. My CD collection went past 500 discs I don’t know how long ago, and ripping the whole lot to iTunes was not a painful process.
