CD+G Ripping problem

Howyadoin,

Following a tragic animal attack on my very expensive DK Karaoke discs which resulted in the death of two of the little buggers (discs - not animals), I’m attempting to convert the remaining discs to MP3+G format.

The problem is that the lowest number tracks convert perfectly, but as the track numbers on the disc get higher, the karaoke lyric graphics get progressively glitchier (is that a word?). The audio extraction seems OK. Playing the disks directly with Tyrannosoft WinCDG produces the same effect on the graphics, and the audio stutters as well.

I’m using a Plextor 40/12/40A CD-RW drive under Win2K with SP2, version 4.6 ASPI drivers, and a couple of different ripping programs, Goldenhawk CDRWin and Tyrannosoft CDG Ripper.

My offhand guess is that there is a problem with the transfer rate as the tracks progress toward the edge of the disc. I’ve tried adjusting the drive speed in the Plextor properties page, no such luck. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

If backup protection of the material is the issue you might be better off simply making a disk to disc backup with a low level disc to disc copier like cloneCD.

Have you tried copying the disc with CloneCD? I’ve heard great things about it, although I haven’t really used it myself.

What speeds are you ripping the CD at?

Read speeds go up as you move towards the edge of the CD, and read errors increase as read speeds increase. Try copying at 1x and see if that helps. (Bring a good book.)
