Our 2005 Ford Explorer has the standard CD player with a changer. It ate 2 CD’s and they are #3 and 4 of a LIBRARY audio book. If I can’t get them out safely and am forced to do the walk of shame to the circulation desk and tell the nice person that I just ruined yet another of their collection my life will be ruined. Well, maybe not ruined, but I’d be really embarrassed and besides, it was a good book and I’d like to finish it.
If anyone has any ideas, I would be very appreciative.
I got this from someone here on the Dope and I’ll be damned if it didn’t work like a charm.
Hit the eject button and then bang the top of the dash just above your cd player “Fonzi Style”.
That was for just a single CD player though, I’m not sure if this will work for a multiplayer.
When my car CD player (also a single player) broke with a CD in it, I was able to find a special super-secret eject mechanism. On my player, it was a little, inconspicuous, hole about the diameter of a paper clip that was below and slightly to the right side of the tray, and it popped the CD out when I stuck a paper clip into it.
So far, I have tried using narrow forcepts and a flashlight to look in and didn’t see anything silver and shiny (the rest of the discs are mostly silver, so I assume that’s what I’m looking for with these) and smacking the top of the dashboard.
Its possible that I might have used my fist a couple of times as well. That didn’t get the CD’s out, but it did make me feel better. Librarians out here can be pretty strict about overdue fines, I’m scared to learn what’s going to happen when I confess that I managed to destroy TWO of their books in the same month. My life is so ruined
Darryl Lict your link suggested disconnecting the battery, so now the battery is disconnected and the lights are on to drain the system.
The good news is that I can renew the book for almost a month more. My life isn’t over tomorrow or anything. This also gives me time to take it to a Ford dealer and hope they don’t damage the discs while getting them out. I’d still rather get them out tonight, it was a good book, gosh darn it. I was planning on listening to it at work tomorrow.
Wouldn’t replacing the library copy with a new copy save you from the wrath of the library people? Then you can worry about getting the ones out of the CD player later.
First off if it is a changer you won’t be able to pull them out with forceps, they are down inside the unit and not inline with the feed slot.
Four suggestions:
Push and hold the eject button for 10 seconds or so. On some units this is an eject all command.
Go visit a local stereo shop see if they can remove and disassemble the unit ( and repair while they are at it)
Call the Ford dealer ask if they can still get exchange units and if Ford’s rebuilder can return the CDs. This will take several weeks.
How handy are you? Remove and disassemble yourself. (This is NOT an easy job)
My son has had a CD checked out of the local library for going on three years now. Just keep renewing it until the Explorer or CD changer dies, then take the CD changer out and open it up by any means necessary.
You are so right, AND I have been unjustly malinging our local librarians. They are very nice and they didn’t put me into stocks because my cat ate a book. I don’t mind paying for damaged rentals, library materials are different. I’ve got a month to figure this out and my husband will be home on Thursday.
Rick, thank you so much for the reply. I took your tag off it because I’m going to post my responses in blue and I don’t want anyone to think that I’m editing your very nice reply.

That’s kinda what I thought when I couldn’t see anything shiny.

I just tried this. I could hear it humming, but nothing happened.

I did not think of this, thank you.

I guess I figured that if my husband couldn’t get them out, this was the option. I think your second suggestion is better.
