"CE" logo

Has anyone noticed the interesting “CE” logo on the back of many products? I work in healthcare, and have noticed it on several items at work, but upon checking at home, it seems to be on various items. Everything from electronic items to medical wound care products has it, and I can’t seem to figure out what the heck it means. I presume it’s some sort of certification, but for what?

Its a safety certification from the European Union. CE stands for Conformité.
More info here: http://www.conformance.co.uk/CE_MARKING/ce_content.html

That should be Conformité Européen :smack:

It’s not just about safety - it’s about measurements and descriptions. It means that the way a product is described (eg just how accurately they measure the 500g or whatever) is acceptable throughout the EU.

I thought that was a different mark - the lower-case e that you find next to the weight on lots of products. The CE mark is the safety one.

Thanks guys for your answers. I presumed it was something along those lines, but I asked several people here in the States, and noone I asked seemed to know. My curiosity has been satiated.

I know cecil took this one some time back. I dont want to fish for it. That question was one of the main reasons I joined the board. (That is, That Cecil answered it, and <coff>Feldman<coff> has not )
