Can someone give some more information on Edward Norton? I’ve seen his name brought up a few times and he’s my favorite actor, so I’m a bit curious.
Hot off the presses:

I can’t really tell whether Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake currently hate each other, love each other, or are just generally two really screwed-up people. Fortunately for me, I don’t care (but just saw Timberlake’s “Cry Me A River” video, which reminded me).
Some have accused Edward Norton of too closely emulating Woody Allen as a film director. If it was the Woody Allen of What’s Up, Tiger Lily?, Bananas, Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask, Sleeper, Play It Again, Sam, Take the Money and Run, Annie Hall, and Manhattan, this might not be much of a problem. What seems to be a problem is that he emulates the Woody Allen responsible for Husbands and Wives, Everybody Says I Love You, Deconstructing Harry, etc, in other words, self-indulgent crap*. And one reason for this being a problem is that he hasn’t got an impressive enough resume to get away with being self-indulgent.
I have no notion what any other movie star thinks of Mr. Norton either personally, as a co-worker, or as a boss.
*DISCLAIMER: not having any particular expertise in film criticism, I don’t have any position on whether Mr. Allen’s later directorial efforts amount to self-indulgent crap, nor do I feel entitled to accuse him of producing it. That said, I enjoyed Everybody Says I Love You and Bullets Over Broadway, but I found Husbands and Wives rather tedious.
I only threw out Willis and Leo because it was rumored that Leo was messing around with Demi Moore while they were still married. I guess they don’t openly loathe each other since that’s all I’ve heard.
I love pop culture-where else can rude behavior just be written off because the offender is “cute”
In every bio I’ve read of Dorothy Parker, it’s agreed that’s a myth. Everyone was always attributing these sayings to her, often falsely.
The “inferiors” story is apparently true.
From what I’ve heard he’s really intense and a huge perfectionist and tries to manipulate those around him to get things to go his way when it comes to his character.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with facts.
:smack:
Boxers Fernando Vargas and Oscar de la Hoya. Vargas HATES Oscar. The way I heard it several years ago they were both training. Vargas was jogging and slipped and fell into a ditch or something. He says that Oscar saw him fall and laughed at him. Oscar for his part says he doesn’t remember the incident.
Last year they had a boxing match and Vargas talked shit about Oscar every chance he had. He was the better fighter. Oscar is not a good boxer and should stick to singing. He would knock Oscar out etc. I suppose you could say it was the usual pre-fight boasting but it was obvious he really hated de la Hoya. Well, Oscar won the fight by knockout. Instead of showing some class and congratulating the winner Vargas immediately left the ring and didn’t even give a post fight interview.
Regarding Ed Norton doesn’t the writer/director of American History X hate him? I seem to recall they had constant problems and arguments while making the film.
Sting, Andy and Stuart are all on good terms as friends (from their reconciliation at Sting and Trudie’s wedding) but have decided that there is no way that they can ever play together again. That is confirmed by numerous interviews.
Shelley Long and Kelsey Grammer have patched up their difficulties; she’s guested on Frasier a few times.
Elton John and Tina Turner fought viciously before their joint appearance on a VH1 Diva’s Live concert, when Tina suggested that Elton was off-tempo during (his) song (that she covers) “The Bitch is Back” which led to a big brouhaha. But they both calmed down and made up and performed together, and are still cordial, which is good because they’re neighbors in France. (Or is it Switzerland? Whichever.)
Jennifer Lopez and Salma Hayek have a long-standing feud over who is the “true” Latina superstar. Hayek says that Lopez doesn’t have the Latina cred because she’s a second or third generation New York Puerto Rican, more Bronx than San Juan, while Hayek is native Mexican. Lopez says eh, nuts to that, she can transcend ethnicity in her roles while Hayek will always be bound by her accent and her minority-chip-on-her-shoulder. And, Lopez adds, look who’s making the money. Ugly stuff, really.
Current feuds:
Shannon Doherty and Alyssa Milano. The former was ousted, by all reports, from the show Charmed due to the strong lobbying of the latter, who is dating one of the other cast members and got him on her side.
Bea Arthur and Betty White. This feud started in the last years of The Golden Girls and to this day, Arthur refers to White in the least flattering terms, even calling her a c*nt in front of a couple of journalists.
Woody Allen and columnist Maureen Dowd got into it when she snarked about one of his movies in a column, leading him to suggest that since she’s not a film critic, she saw the movie just to have an excuse to say something nasty about him.
Sandra Bernhard and Madonna. Or maybe not. Or maybe so. Who knows?
In defense of those who have posted the OP did state:
I don’t think (even in Hollywood) anyone is sick enough to pull this off.
Ditto. The only real negative thing about him to me is that he was the subject of one of the most disturbing headlines of 2002.
I love the headline:
“Big Stink Over Clooney’s Butt”
hehehe
Dang…weren’t they wannabe lesbian lovers at one point?
About the Ed Norton vs. Tony Kaye (American History X director):
Apparently Norton wanted more screen time in the movie and used his power to have the flm recut to get it. That fits the rumors of his being a perfectionist pretty well. Kaye was very unhappy with the final product and attempted to have his name taken off it, and I believe was threatened with, and may have paid, heavy fines to the director’s guild or some other organization and was forced to leave his name on the film anyways. Anyways, sounds like a pretty understandable feud.
Tony Kaye and Marlon Brando were close friends for a while, but now they loathe each other.
I believe the late Queen Mum and the Duke of Windsor hated each other like poison. (It wasn’t Wallis Simpson they hated, I’ve heard, but the Duke).
Michael and Latoya Jackson-I’ve heard they refuse to speak.
Oprah and David Letterman-didn’t he make fun of her once, and she threw a huge hissyfit about it?
The royals’ feelings for Mrs. Simpson aside, their disdain for Edward no doubt stemmed from the fact that he was a rather vain and silly man, ambivalent at best about wearing the crown, and he was a German sympathizer at a time when that was not looked upon with favor. He and Mrs. Simpson even went to Nazi Germany, where Hitler welcomed him like a head of state.
Roseanne and her ex-husband Tom Arnold were regularly trashing one another after their high-profile divorce.
I’ve also heard that Shirley Temple Black and Ronald Reagan never got along with each other despite the fact that they both went on to become conservative politicos (it is known that Black endorsed and campaigned for George Bush in 1980.) This might have stemmed from the fact that they worked together on a turkey of a film, “That Hagen Girl”.
David Lee Roth and Van Halen (due to their break-up after 1984).
David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar (due to animosity from their 2002 tour).
Sammy Hagar and Van Halen (due to their break-up after Balance).
