Donald Trump. Even before his venture into politics.
I’ll fight you over Tina Fey, you can have the others.
As for James Mason…Heaven Can Wait…Yellowbeard.
It isn’t that. He showed up on some police show I was trying to get into, years ago (NYPD Blue probably), and he just seemed so flat and sort of written-in. I don’t know, like the producer was his father-in-law or something. And then with his lack of personality and sort-of punchable face tacked onto a supposedly smart, manly, sex-appeal sort of role just seemed bizarre. I’m not trying to be superficial…I usually love antiheroes or when people have unusual appeal (D’Onofrio grew on me big-time in L&O CI) Caruso just seemed so ill-fit to the part I couldn’t even watch the show anymore.
Used to be it was Jan-Michael Vincent, then it was C. Thomas Howell. These days it is Michael Pitt.
I can’t say exactly why - some actors just give me the creeps. With Pitt it might be the perpetually greasy hair and blank, soul-less eyes.
Caruso’s “dramatically remove my black shades” acting style is horrific.
For me its Bill Paxton. Bill from obituary accounts was a lovely human being, but in my view, couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag. *Aliens *- ugh! Titanic - ugh! The only time I ever enjoyed his acting in a movie was in True Lies.
any actress that shows their face in public after their facelift goes bad.
Jason Alexander, who ruins anything he’s been connected with. Even Bye By Birdie! He seems to make everyone around him worse, too.
All of the Baldwin Brothers creep me out. Their faces are not put together right. I’ve held this opinion since first seeing Alec as Billy Baldwin on The Doctors in 1980.
Mel Gibson, even before his insane bigotry came to light.
Good answers, I hate almost all these people!
My irrational one has always been Bruce Willis. I think he’s ugly, and he’s always being presented as some kind of stud. And he killed Hans. And he shot Vincent. Fuck that guy.
I’m sure he’s a really nice person.
All this plus his ill fitting dentures or whatever it is that makes him speak as if he’s wearing them. And I realize these are all just physical things so let me throw in his inane, self indulgent ramblings, be it in that insufferable car (Lincoln?) commercial, his award acceptance speeches, interviews and whatever that nonsense he was spouting when he hosted SNL. What an unattractive wanker.
With that being said, I didn’t mind a couple of the rom com type movie he made back in the day and I have seen him give some good dramatic performances (Frailty, Mud, The Paperboy, Killer Joe), so I can enjoy him as an actor sometimes. Who I cannot stand in any circumstance is freakin’ Dakota Johnson. There’s just something about her face (and oh god, her stupid bangs!) that sets my teeth on edge. Luckily she doesn’t seem to make the kind of films I would ever be tempted to see.
Frances Fisher (the mother in Titanic)makes me wish she’d be hit by a giant iceberg (not really) which, to her credit, made her extremely effective in that role.
Tom Cruise. I took an instant, visceral dislike to him the first time I saw him (way before the Scientology nuttiness) in All the Right Moves in '83. Even typing his name fills me with rage.
I’m with you on this. I have no idea why I dislike Nicholas Cage so much, but I do. To me, he always looks as though he just found out his dog died in a horrible blimp accident.
My sons enjoy my hatred of Cage. My youngest will sometimes shout “Nicholas Cage!” at me for no reason whatsoever. It doesn’t help that they both enjoyed the National Treasure movies and will watch them over and over.
The problem with Matthew McC-however it’s spelled and Owen Wilson is that they both sound like they showed up to the set for the first day of filming having thought that they didn’t need a script; they’ll just wing it.
Your mention of Russell Brand reminded me of my irrational hatred for Jonah Hill. There was that movie they were in several years ago – “Get Him To The Greek”? Never even saw the movie, but there was a snippet in the trailer that was the first time I saw that camera technique where the camera is attached to the actor (Jonah Hill) so that the actor never moves within the frame but everything in the background is constantly in motion. I have an irrational hatred for that technique and therefore I have an irrational hatred of Jonah Hill. In fact whenever I see that technique used, I refer to it as the “Jonah Hill Cam”.
Probably not full on hate, but I tend to dislike actors who made their bones playing mentality challenged characters: Joey from Friends, Woody Harrelson, the tall asshole from the 70s show, etc.
A lot of the reasons presented here are quite rational.
Disliking Bruce Willis because his characters killed the bad guys? That’s not only irrational, I’d consider that you need professional help - you may be a psychopath.
My irrationals are Juliette Lewis and Julianne Moore. I hate them for no obvious reason, but hate them I do.
For me, one is Neil DeGrasse Tyson. I can’t really explain why I hate him - to me, he comes across as condescending and smarmy - a “I’m smarter and better than you, I know it, you know it and there’s nothing you can do about it” look to him. Rationally, I know he’s not like that and he does some good things, but boy do I want to just punch him in the face sometimes. Plus all the worship he gets in some circles is way over the top.
My hatred of Barbra Streisand and her screechy voice is completely rational.
William Hurt - sort of. He appeared in a long string of movies and shows I disliked and decided he was the common factor. Then he ruined my dislike by appearing (and being good) in the AMC show “Humans”. So he has been partially redeemed in my eyes.
