Celebrities You've Met

I went to Disneyland with Sammy Davis Jr. in 1968. Slept at his house several times. Went to his grandmother’s funeral and appeared on the cover of Jet magazine. (My mom and his stepmom were best friends for 20 years)

I hung out in Warrent Beatty’s kitchen for an entire afternoon, with Warren and a friend.

I smoked pot with Andy Gibb.

I paid the bills for, among others, Bruce Jenner and Bernie Taupin.

I met Elton John in his dressing room with only him and our mutual friend. It was strange.

I have slept with an Oscar-nominated actor, post nomination.

Sam Kinison gave me a drunken kiss.

If the telephone counts, Cary Grant.

I knew I forgot a few:

  • Jerry Mathers, but hasn’t everyone met Jerry Mathers?

Racecar drivers:

  • Mario Andretti

  • Al Unser, Jr.

  • Bobby Rahal

  • Roberto Moreno

  • Gregg Moore

  • Parker Johnstone

  • Jan Beekhuis

  • Chris Economaki, sportcaster

  • John Allan Paulos, author (Innumeracy)

  • Jim Lovell, Apollo 13 astronaut

  • Kristin Chenoweth, Tony-winning Broadway performer (brief encounter at the Montreal airport after seeing her perform at a live broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion a week earlier. I’d never heard of her before that show.)

C’mon Stoid, if you’re going to kiss and tell, go all the way. Or at least give us a hint. What year was he nominated?

I’d sure count it. One of my favorite Hollywood stories: Cary Grant intercepted a telegram intended for his agent that read “How old Cary Grant?” Grant sent back the reply: “Old Cary Grant fine. How you?”

Up until two weeks ago: the canadian singer Anne Murray at an airport in Toronto. Also the golfer nemisis in Happy Gilmore.

Since then:
Jackie Collins,
Farrah Fawcett,
Robin Givens,
Melissa Gilbert

By met I mean that we were all eating at the same small restaurant - Murrieta’s Bar and Grill in Calgary. This being Calgary everyone was cool and no one went up to the group for autographs

The group of actors were all together at the same table with about 10 other people including some kids. I would have never have recognized them if my wife didn’t have a good eye for picking these things out. This restaurant has great food which is what I was more interested in. They were all in town filming this movie .

Ive met

Darth Vader, he asked me where I was from because I said something with double in it, he is from croydon.

Darth Maul, (the actor), hes cute, from england also.

The twins who play albinos in the Matrix reloaded. I was kind of disappointed that they were not actually albinos in real life.

These three were at the Science Fiction convention in Toronto.

Bros (Luke and Matt Goss) if anyone remembers them.

The British Bulldogs at the airport.

The guy who played Doogie Howser was in front of me in Starbucks.

The guy who played Steve Sanders was getting his haircut beside me in a salon. (he bragged alot about the ppl he knew)

Thats all I can remember for now.

I was 12 years old, with my dad. in the lobby of Radio City Music Hall. Down the ramp, coming from the seating area, was Moe Howard of the 3 Stooges. He was with his wife, and his hair was slicked back. I think I may have wet myself, as my father brought me over to him and introduced me. He smiled, and gave me an autographed postcard of the stooges. I didn’t sleep for a week.
I also met jockey Eddie Arcaro (had my picture taken with him), and Jack Dempsey…at his restaurant in Times Square.I joined the Navy shortly after that and my Dad continued to be a regular customer at Jack’s place. He requested, from me, through my Dad, to send him a formal picture of me in uniform. I did that, and he put my picture in the window…in the middle of Times Square!

That’s hardly a hint! That narrows the field to twenty people, and depending on who those twenty are, it wouldn’t be too difficult to pin it down, or come damn close!

And I haven’t kissed and told…if I told, you wouldn’t be asking me to tell, now would you?

:stuck_out_tongue:

Well yeah, that was kind of the point. I was thinking it would narrow it even further, since if the person had won the Oscar, you would have said “Oscar winner.” And, provincial me, I was thinking that it would narrow it down to eight, on the assumption that you don’t sleep with people of both sexes. You learn something new every day.

“Root Boy Slim - at a party in college (I think)”

Was he wearing his Root glasses?

Benjamin Netanyahu - nice guy, he even thanked me by name.

And I almost got beat-up by Mark Grace back in 92’ or 93’ (the year before the walkout)… He was being a big jerk at a local bar and I pointed it out to him - he didn’t like that.

I met Meredith Vieira when I was on WWTBAM. She is a doll, much sweeter than she seems to be on TV.

Sat behind Vincent Price at the MOMA’s cafe (didn’t even realize it until people started asking him for autographs).

Met Wayne Brady (& shook his hand!) when my sister was playing piano for his traveling comedy tour a couple of summers back - he’s a sweetie!

I’ve met Senator John Kerry several times.

  • and the coup de grace -

My brother-in-law knows Weird Al Yankovic.

I met Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. I parked cars for party guests at their house when I was a kid. Very, very nice people.

I had a one-night stand with a minor celebrity in the 80’s. She was a one-hit wonder, nice voice, exquistite long, dark hair. Super coke fiend.

P.J. O’Rourke - I was at a booksigning of his in, of all places, Marin County.

Crispin Glover - At a comic convention in San Diego. I was there to see my friend’s film which premiered there in the morning, and I hung around for a while. I ended up waiting in line for his autograph, which was odd, since I’ve never seen him in anything.

Kevin Smith - At the same convention. I didn’t recognize him, and had a vague conversation about a boom microphone, oblivious to who I was talking to.

I’d also like to say that I slept with a popular Hollywood starlet.

But that would be an utter lie.

Canadian Juno Award winning children’s entertainer Charlotte Diamond was my guitar and choir teacher at New Westminster Senior Secondary high school.

I also went to Edmonds Junior High at the same time as Michael J Fox, but I regret to say I really don’t remember him. Lots of my friends do, though!

I met Christopher Walken on an airplane from NY to LA. I was 16, and travelling with my mother. I had sat down already, and she was still getting situated. I then realized I still had my hat on, and handed it to her to put in the overhead bin. She couldn’t reach it, so she turned to the guy behind her to put my hat up over the coats and bags. It was Christopher Walken. He took my hat and put it in the overhead bin, and sat in the seat behind me. I left him alone. He was reading a script. It was pre-production time for Pulp Fiction, so I am assuming that was it.

My Dad once ran into Huey Lewis (and The News, too) when they were filming a music video for “Back to the Future.” He hadn’t heard of him, but wished he (and and his band) “good luck.” (Incidentally, since the movie hadn’t come out yet, my dad wondered why they had stuck “a bunch of weird stuff” on the DeLorean they had on set. Maybe it was just another DeLorean (prob’ly), but if it wasn’t, it kind of counts as another celebrity)

Later that year, a friend of my dad’s, a Marin county police officer, ran into Huey (and The News, again) drinking beer on a pier late one night. He’d never heard of them, either. Friend police officer told them to move along, and the following exchange occured:

“But we’re Huey Lewis and the News!”

“Oh yeah? We’ll I’m Joe Smith, Sausalito PD. Get going!”

 I’ve always liked that story.

And, if it counts, one of my distant ancestors knew George Washington, and probably the rest of the founding fathers.

He would have signed the Declaration of Independence, too, but he left early because he had his business to run.

Walloon, I’m pretty sure cherry means David Prowse. (He’s from Bristol, though.)

Still, it’s a memorable image, innit?

No, I’m trying to make sense of “he asked me where I was from because I said something with double in it”.
