Well, apart from a bunch of Swedish celebs, which wouldn’t make any sense mentioning on this board, part from Roxette, I’ve met:
- Seka
- ex-pres Jimmy Carter
- Goldie Hawn
Well, apart from a bunch of Swedish celebs, which wouldn’t make any sense mentioning on this board, part from Roxette, I’ve met:
I’ve seen countless celebrities in LA, have met many as well. Will try to remember them, but I know I’ll miss some. I’m bolding their names because there are a lot (but not as many as some of the rest of you, I’m sure!).
Celebrities I’ve had some sort of interaction with (rather than just “seeing” them):
Ted Bessell (“That Girl’s” boyfriend) - had a pastel class with him at Otis Art School
Peter Falk - Saw him sketching nudes in a spare studio at Otis. Seemed really nice.
Pierce Brosnan - a friend got me on the set of “Remington Steele.” He seemed really nice.
Stephanie Zimbalist - also “Remington Steele.” Super sweet. Both she and Brosnan signed a drawing I did of them.
She’s not a celebrity herself, but I had a pottery class with Gay Ribisi, Giovani Ribisi’s mother. His sister (can’t remember her name) also came to the class a lot too, even though she was pretty young. Gay is very nice and a super potter.
The guy who played the bald guy with the oxygen tank in “The Pretender” TV show. He is the husband of a fellow pottery student.
Gerald McRaney and Jameson Parker on the “Simon and Simon” set. They were both really nice and signed my sketch book.
Charlton Heston backstage after a play. Also met his co-star, Jeremy Brett (famous for PBS’s Sherlock Holmes.) Both very nice guys.
Angela Lansbury. I was working as an extra (throwing pottery) on “Murder She Wrote” and she commented that my pottery was “very colorful.”
Ray Wise (the guy who killed Laura Palmer on “Twin Peaks”). Customer at a store I worked at. Nice guy.
The pretty English lady with the long dark hair from General Hospital. Also a customer in my store. Very nice.
Tarzan Comic book artist Burne Hogarth was my figure drawing teacher for two semesters at Otis.
Giuliana Santini, who played the Italian War Bride in the late, lamented show “Homefront.” She went to the same college I did. I told her I sent a postcard into ABC to help save the show. (It did help.) She thanked me and was very sweet.
Walter Koenig, “Chekov” from “Star Trek.” Saw him at a con. Nice guy.
Michael York, Barry Bostwick, Harry Hamlin, Bruce Boxleitner, Kier Dullea and a host of other actors who showed up at science fiction conventions. All these guys were nice. I remember Kier Dullea (who played “Dave” in “2001”) went on and on about yoga.
Celebrities I’ve seen, but not really interacted with:
Harrison Ford (set of “Blade Runner”)
Demi Moore and Emma Sams on the set of “General Hospital.” (I have a friend who works there.)
Daryl Hannah (saw her from a distance on the “Blade Runner” set)
Steve Petty at L.A.X.
Sam Waterson walking across the street in Century City.
Rutger Hauer (“Roy Batty” from “Blade Runner”) at a special screening of the movie. What a piece of work. (I mean that in a nice way.)
William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy at the opening of the Star Trek “ride” at Universal Studios. I’d seen Shatner before; he’s a weird one.
Polly Bergen at the commissary at Universal Studios. She looked at me as if she was afraid that I was going to bug her for an autograph. No worries, lady, I had no intention.
I sat next to Russell Johnson (the “Professor” from “Gilligan’s Island”) on a tram on the Universal Studios lot. We shared the tram with a lot of ladies who were obviously from the wardrobe department. They had wigs on their laps.
Oh man, there’s so many more, but I can’t remember them now. I think I have a pretty good memory as it is, to remember all of these.
I’ve met quite a few Broadway people at stage doors and at Broadway on Broadway (September 7th at 11:30 in Times Square this year). The nicest was Louise Pitre of Mamma Mia! The funniest was Lawrence Street of Urinetown.
The celebrities who know me include ex-Jet Bruce Harper, local anchor Brenda Blackmon, Rev. Al and his wife, singer Angie Stone and Ray Simpson of the Village People.
No sense? This is an international message board. Half of the time I have no idea of who the celebrites mentioned on these boards are. Guess I watch Leno to seldom. So, what swedish celebs have you met?
Let me see…
Betty White, who came to visit my college in Minnesota back when The Golden Girls was big. (St. Olaf College, natch.)
I used to work at the biggest Barnes & Noble in the upper midwest. I met a number of authors while setting up for various book clubs and signings. First and foremost was Neil Gaiman. I too am running out of things for him to sign.
I had a brief conversation with Robert Fulghum. “So, what do you do around here, Rob?” “Anything they tell me to.”
Others included Lois McMaster Bujold (she brought a few of them rocket-shaped trophies with her), Stephen Brust (who apparently spent an inordinate amount of time ogling the wife of one of my co-workers), and Orson Scott Card (very nice guy).
Tony Holt, one of the original King’s Singers was my voice instructor during my sophmore year in college. He arranged to have the group come to St. Olaf for a master class, then adroitly maneuvered them into giving a mini-concert at the same time.
While he was artistic director (I think) of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Bobby McFerrin shopped at the aforementioned Barnes & Noble fairly often.
I met Colleen Doran and Scott Lobdell at a comic book shop, just before I seriously got back into collecting. Thus, at the time I had no clue who they were.
I performed under Bobby Mcferrins baton in a version of Carmina Burana
does that count?
other then that alot of obscure percussionists who noone but percussionists really know
cheers!
All of them.
Seriously. I’ve worked in radio for 20 years. Almost everyone who’s ever been anything on the Swedish music scene has shown up at the station to promote something or other. Actors too.
Nicest people? Christer Sandelin (which surprised me), Niclas Wahlgren, Magnus Härenstam and Helena Bergström.
Nastiest: Martin Timell, Lasse Åberg.
Hulk Hogan, and Norman Spinrad.
Regards,
Shodan
I saw Woody Allen complete with Soon Yi at his side.
For a man who allegedly doesn’t want to be recognized he sure does a lousy job of it. He had on the same glasses and the same hat you’ve seen him wear in dozens of his movies. As he walked by you could hear people whispering to each other, “Was that him?”
I used to work with Jeff Foxworthy. He’s a funny guy, and nice too.
Science fiction writer David Brin told me I had lovely eyes. And I didn’t dump a coke on his head either.
I met Jon Pertwee (from Dr. Who) once. A lovely man, very very charming.
Once when I was in Chicago, I rode up in an elevator with Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees. There were 4 or 5 people in the elevator with him. Everybody was being very cool and nobody was bothering him. Then just before she got off at her floor, one lady turned around to him and said “I do know who you are!” and smiled and left the elevator.
The rest of us laughed and nodded and smiled at him, and left him alone.
I thought that was very cool.
Have you ever met Dennis Lyxzèn?
Maybe it’s just me, but when I hear the words “Swedish” and “celebrity” together, I think “Ernst-Hugo Järegård.”
Didja? He was awesome.
While walking in Woodstock, on vacation, one of my shoes flew off my foot, and happened to hit Brad Pitt.
I apologized, he grinned, said it was okay, and gave me back my shoe.
Damnit, I don’t get out enough. All my celebs are comic book writers – I’ve mentioned Kurt Busiek and Chris Claremont, and I’ve also chatted with Joe Quesada (“Joey Q”) and Peter David.
My mother used to know Hank Williams, Jr. – she detested him! She used to sneer whenever he was on TV, saying he was the biggest @sshole she ever met.
When Sandra Bullock was filming A Time to Kill she showed up completely drunk at a club and danced with my brother. He also hung out with Kid Rock a few times, said he was very cool and down-to-earth.
My ex-best friend once met Sam Neill, perhaps best known from the Jurassic Park movies. She said he was, quote, “sexy as hell”.
Bill Griffith (Zippy The Pinhead artist) and Terry Zwigoff (Crumb director) at the video store in San Francisco at which I worked.
Henry Rollins, Meg Ryan, Scott Weiland, Governor Christine Todd Whitman, Greg Grant (basketball player), the star basketball player from LaSalle U from 15 years ago or so (can’t recall the name), and the lead singer of Slaughter (can’t recall the name) at the 7-11 at which I worked in New Jersey.
Brooks Robinson (baseball player) on a Starr Tours trip to Cooperstown, NY.
Doug Holland - King of all Zinesters - is my best friend, though living 2000 miles away…
Richie Ashburn (baseball player) somewhere - don’t recall where…
hrh
He’s something, isn’t he?
I shared the floor of a suite at the Disneyland Hotel with him and a bunch of other people. He borrowed my toothpaste and rubbed noses with me.
(That was a long time ago. Long story.)
I was going to say I haven’t met a one, but do celebrity academics count?
Noam Chomsky
Leon Lederman
I stood in line once with Stephen King. I wouldn’t call that meeting.
I saw Brad Pitt in a mall once. He smiled at me, but I didn’t realize who it was until about 5 minutes later. ugh.
I met Jeremy McGrath (supercross star)
Tim Easton (Alternative Country singer)
Had a small but recurring part in Sydney Pollack’s ‘Havana’ – scenes with Robert Redford, Raul Julia and Lena Olin. Became semi-friendly with Pollack, sent me an invitation to NYC opening. My ex-wife ended up going with a friend, don’t much care for glitz.
Thought the movie was pretty good – kind of like a re-make of Casablanca – but it bombed at the box-office.
I used to fly NY->LA and LA->NY on what seemed to be an extremely popular set of American Airlines flights for celebs. By chance, I’ve sat next to or across the aisle from a whole bunch of them.
The one-timers:
Alex Trebek (He slept, and snored)
Lars Ullrich (Metallica)
Rosie O’Donnell and her partner, Kelly (No kids with them.)
Phylicia Rashad (She slept and slumped over so far that she nearly fell out of her seat.)
Krist Noviselic (Nirvana)
Dame Edna (out of drag and unrecognizable)
Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna (They whispered, giggled and smooched a lot. Very cute.)
Bill and Camille Cosby (When I told him that I named one of my dogs “Froofie” after one of his stand-up bits, he gave me a kiss and hug.)
Dyan Cannon (The woman is frighteningly thin.)
Kelly Rowland (from Destiny’s Child - talked on the airphone from the moment it was permitted until she absolutely had to hang up.)
Finola Hughes (General Hospital and Charmed - drank lots of tea and went to the bathroom a lot.)
Laila Ali (Muhammad’s daughter and boxer in her own right. Wore a sleeveless dress and intimidated everyone with her amazing arms.)
Ben Stein and his wife. (She was feeling poorly and he was very solicitous of her, it was nice to see.)
James Woods (Slept.)
The Multiple-Trippers:
David Hyde Pierce (Very personable and funny and tells beautifully dirty jokes upon request, including an awful one about Moose the Dog from Frasier.)
Kristen Chenoweth (Broadway and the recent TV version of “The Music Man” - did NY to LA and back once a week for a while, the poor thing.)
Mike Myers and his wife Robin Ruzan (Very nice to everyone, surprisingly very quiet.)
Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards (She’s very nice, he’s standoffish. I once told her that she was one of my idols, she said “Oh, aim higher, dear!”)
Nathan Lane (Flew with him five times, he’s very nice but drank a troubling amount.)
LeeAnn Rimes and her husband. (Also very kissy-huggy in a young, newlywed, sweet way.)
Then there are those I’ve met in other situations, but that’s a whole other post, I think.
