George Goodman, who wrote about finance (The Money Game, Supermoney, Paper Money) and mysticism (Powers of Mind) under the pseudonym ‘Adam Smith’, died yesterday at the age of 83. Paul Krugman has a couple of good pieces about him on his blog that are quite worth reading.
William Overstreet, Jr., the WWII fighter pilot who flew under the Eiffel Tower, has died at age 92.
I had no idea that had even happened. It must have been a sight.
While her death is just be announced now, she died back on November 13. So belated points for anyone who had her on their 2013 list.
I had Don as an alternate. The reason I had Don and not Phil was that, I think, Don was the hell raiser with the drink and drugs problem, whilst Phil wasn’t. Did I read my research incorrectly? I didn’t even look at Phil. Didn’t even know he was ill. At least I only had Don as an alternate. Still, it makes me think I should have done a more diligent research job.
Yes, that must’ve been a sight. Here’s a picture of Overstreet in his P-51 Mustang chasing the Messerschmidt ME-109 through the Eiffel Tower’s legs (artist’s rendering):
A cool picture, and I’m considering buying a copy. The picture is also in the article that Morgyn linked us to.
Overstreet’s passing reminds me of a friend who passed last year. Ben Herbert Smith was 95 when he passed away on 04 Aug 2014 (obit at Goo.gl is sunsetting). He flew the P-38 Lockheed Lightning in WWII, and he told me a story of flying his plane one day underneath the Golden Gate Bridge, back in the day when you didn’t get into trouble for such stunts. Or maybe he just didn’t get caught.
Ben rests in the outdoor columbarium at his church in Sunnyvale, CA, so this WWII hero can be visited at:
St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1025 The Dalles Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA
Just wanted to share that, thanks.
echo7tango, out.
As DeathMistress I don’t go looking for deaths, there are too many celebrities. I count on the help of those playing, the greedy bastards.
But no, nobody had her, and by now it’s too late to collect points.

Former G-Unit rapper Mazaradi Fox killed in shooting
Rapper Jamal Green, aka Mazaradi Fox, was shot and killed Friday when a gunman shot into the SUV he was sitting in. Green, 42, was released from prison just two weeks ago
I know nothing of rap but these guys are pure gold. I’m starting research for 2015 to replace my annual list of immortals.
And if we saw that in a movie or TV show we would think it was way too outlandish for anyone to actually try. Reminds me of an episode of the TV show JAG where the star was flying with his wingman over Kosovo and the wingman took a hit in an engine.
He wasn’t going to be able to make it back to safe territory, so the star had him drop his landing hook, then placed his plane so it was pushing the wingman’s with the hook on the cockpit canopy. Got him back to where the wingman could punch out safely over the ocean and be picked up by Americans. I saw it and thought it was the stupidest thing they did on that show, no way it would work. Then they tell you at the end of the episode that it really happened with F-4s over Vietnam.
I’ve never gone for a themed list but I did briefly consider an all-rapper list. However, Mazaradi Fox wasn’t on it.
As a starter for your 2015 list, you might consider Dwayne Carter (aka Lil Wayne), Radric Davis (aka Gucci Mane), Mandeecees Harris, Torrence Hatch (aka Lil Boosie), Todd Shaw (aka Too Short), and DeAndre Way (aka Soulja Boy).
Just returned from a victorious Rose Bowl trip late last night and catching up on posts since I left last Sunday. So, perhaps someone already mentioned this but Frankie Muniz turned 28 on December 5 since he was born in 1985. Just an FYI.
Oh, are you a Spartan fan? I worked for MSU for a year, 1986-1987.
Sounds like you found the same citesas I did.
Yes, alum.
Also, glad you asked because I wanted to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH for all you do for the Death Pool. After reading over the past 6 pages, you had quite a bit of work the last 3 days of December. Also, a belated Happy Birthday to you Baker!
Go GREEN!
A lot of Stanford fans here where I live are still wincing over tha one.
Congrats to the Spartans!
Day of the Triffids producer Bernard Glasser, gone at 89 according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Saul Zaentz, who sued John Fogerty for plagiarizing himself, has died at 92.
I’m looking at the 2013 Death Pool thread and I see that reports of 2013 deaths are still coming in. Can I suggest that 2014 judgement be delayed until Jan 6th 2015? Jan 6th being the 12th Day of Christmas so a final Christmas present for someone.
I believe we should count them until Hanukkah.
