Celebrity Death Pool 2014

As seen on my Facebook page (verbatim). Sue me, I’m lazy:
The Professor - gone! Reuben Kincaid - gone! Place your bets, who’s the trifecta? 60’s - 70’s sit-com stars beware!

Greg Brady? Potsie Webber? Venus Flytrap?

Oh shit! This could finally be Abe Vigoda’s year!

50 years on a tropical island, without sunscreen or moisturizer, will do that to you.

Ruth Duccini, who had until yesterday been one of the last two living Munchkins from The Wizard of Oz, died at age 95. Jerry Maren is now the lone remaining Munchkin.

Hiroo_Onoda, a Japanese soldier from WWII who didn’t surrender until 1974, died yesterday at the age of 91.

I remember when I was growing up in the 1960s, it seemed that every few years, another Japanese soldier who’d been hiding out on some island, thinking the war hadn’t ended, would come out of the jungle and surrender. (Since we’ve been talking about Gilligan’s Island in the wake of the Professor’s death, I should mention that there was an episode in Season 1 that was a riff on this.) IIRC, Onoda was the last of these.

As of 25 minutes ago, we’re 5% of the way through 2014. Given that we’ve only had 3 deaths for points, there’s hardly a need for a full-blown DeathMistress scoreboard yet, but it looks like we’ve got Quartz in the lead with 40 points, the 24 people who had Ariel Sharon tied for second with 15 points, and Borborygmi in 26th with 11 points.

Baker says there are 165 of us in the game this year, so that leaves 139 of us tied for 27th, with zero points.

Too bad Borborygmi didn’t play the same list here as in the other place I play. They’re in the lead over there, and would be here as well.

Sounds like I’d still be behind Quartz. But having 26th place all to myself has a certain cachet to it anyway, so no regrets here.

:smack:I shouldn’t be running this if I can’t do basic math.

Oh well, I’m playing two completely different lists. I did better (nine points) in 2013 over there then I did here(three points)!

I’m tied for second!!!

I think we have a death for points (not my points, unfortunately): Dennis Frederiksenof the 1970s band Toto. I think he was on Fear Itself’s list. Wikipedia has his age as 62.

Woo HOO!! That’s my earliest cherry-busting ever! 38 points! Where’s the champagne and white women?

Fear Itself is now in second place, two points behind Quartz.

And the rest of us drop back into a tie for 28th.

I dropped him for 2014. Unbelievable.

Reality star Roy Garber dead at 49

“Shipping Wars” reality show???

The word on several army pages I follow is that Hal Moore is dying. That would give me my first few points.

Conductor Claudio Abbado has died, age 80. A great man in the classical music world.

Ariel Sharon, from your previous list, would have given you more points, but wouldn’t have fit the theme!

Since I had him on my list since 2006, it was obvious that Sharon was staying alive just to spite me.

That’s what happens: guys like you stop providing artificial life support, and then they die!

ETA: Aslan died.

That’s Aslan Gahramanly, the Azerbaijani playwright, but I just had to see if I could make any C.S. Lewis fans’ heads spin.
