Plastic surgery futures have taken a nosedive.
Maybe this is more Urban Legend than fact, but The Version I Heard Was, Carson made it known that anybody who went on Rivers’s talk show (the short-lived one on Fox) need not bother ever asking to go on The Tonight Show ever again.
IIRC, the whole thing started when Rivers discovered a “leaked” short list of candidates to replace Carson - and her name wasn’t on it. How much input Carson had on that list, I don’t know. (Rivers didn’t do herself any favors when she signed with Fox behind Carson’s back.)
One of Latin America’s most popular rock stars, Gustavo Cerati, has died in Buenos Aires, after four years in coma.
Cerati, 55, suffered a stroke at the end of a concert in May 2010 in Venezuela and never recovered.
Someone ought to be able to cross check Rivers’ guests with Carson’s guests to see if it could be true.
Library1900 is my husband and I don’t know if he’ll be happy, honored, or horrified to hear the news.
I beat him to the punch this year with Casey Kasem.
I think he knows that he is your husband!
And I look at it as there was no reason why Joan had to go to Carson hat in hand to get permission to take a job. Carson was a raging egomaniac.
Her own words from a few years ago.
She claims she did call Johnny when offered the job but he refused to talk to her.
Thanks for that Hollywood Reporter link, Loach. I always admired her attitude even when I didn’t necessarily enjoy her material.
When I have heard more candid interviews with her she seemed to be a strange combination. She didn’t give a fuck if she offended the public at large. But she was greatly effected and easily hurt by the opinions and actions of those close to her. She was both tough as nails and very sensitive.
Haven’t been here since March and had not been paying much attention to death. Reading through the thread, many have died that I didn’t here about including 3 of 4 on my list that did. Down year for everyone compared to 2013. Nearly 4 months to go though. Plenty of time for bucket kicking.
Loach
Carson was a raging egomaniac.
Agreed. (I never was a fan of Johnny Carson.)
I just read that Irish actress Clare Cathcart (of Call the Midwife) has died at age 48.

http://www.seattlepi.com/news/us/article/Chick-fil-A-founder-S-Truett-Cathy-has-died-5740676.php
S. Truett Cathy, the billionaire founder of the privately held Chick-fil-A restaurant chain that famously closes on Sundays but also drew unwanted attention on gay marriage in recent years because of his family’s conservative views, died early Monday, a company spokesman said. He was 93.
Since CAMJAY hasn’t been checking the thread, does he forfeit the points they’ve earned? If not, why not?
The story has it wrong.
Cathy did not “dr[a]w unwanted attention on gay marriage in recent years because of his family’s conservative views,” he drew that attention because he wanted everyone else to abide by his family’s conservative views, and gave lots of money to outfits that were pushing those views down everyone else’s throats.
And if that got him some unwanted attention, then boo hoo hoo.
