Celebrity Death Pool 2016

With the death of Andrew Smith CAMJAY77 takes the lead from guylevesque. A unique pick of course.

1 CAMJAY77 75 1 1
2 guylevesque 31 1 1
3 BlossomDrearie 14 1 0
3 bowler girl 14 1 0
3 Happy Lendervedder 14 1 0
3 Team Dirt 14 1 0

Yeah, I’d say this guy fits that description.

Damn, 75 points behind already, and we’re not even two weeks into the year.

He better be careful which doors he opens.

Wow. I’m seeing CAMJAY77 staying on top for a while.

Too late to contest a pick but last year a Div I NCAA Woman’s Basketball player was contested and rejected as her only claim to fame was her illness.

That said, I am pissed I didn’t list Smith

Anyone who followed and watched college basketball knew who he was. He became famous his sophomore year when he hit a last second shot in the NCAA Tournament to beat #1 seed Pittsburgh. Then he got better

Lauren Hill was actually a Division III basketball player, and there’s a pretty big gulf between Division III and Division I. Even mens’ Division III doesn’t get televised or anything, or at least didn’t used to. (Now that there’s a bunch of ESPN channels on cable, who knows what they fill up all that air time with.)

That said, I think we need to figure out a way to sort these situations out ahead of time in future years. Just because someone posts his/her list with minutes to go before the new year begins, doesn’t mean that person’s picks should be unchallengeable. I’ve posted something to the thread for suggesting new Death Pool rules.

Jim Simpson, who covered numerous sports events during his decades-long broadcasting career, has died at the age of 88. From 1964 to '79, Simpson announced NFL and AFL football games for NBC-TV, as well as each Major League Baseball All-Star game. He was also at the mike for Olympic Games ranging from 1952 (the linked article is in error, as that year’s Winter Games were in Oslo, while Helsinki hosted the Summer Games) to the 1996 equestrian competition in Atlanta.

Lawrence Phillips dead at 40. Suspected suicide Lawrence Phillips found dead in prison at age 40

Lots of talent housed in a complete waste of a human.

And, apparently, a complete waste of points…

The only thing that would have made his life worth something.

Stratford Festival actor Brian Bedford has taken his last curtain call.

I had him from 2009 to 2011, but figured he would be safe in prison. Especially in solitary. What a wasted life.

Dammit. Jerry Sandusky was my prison suicide pick.

First Bowie, now Alan Rickman. It’s a sad week for Anglophiles

…and pointless - literally. A quick thread search reveals this post as the only mention of his name.

Not sure who pissed off the Grim Reaper during the holidays, but he/she/it’s been on a tear the last two weeks…

…and I’m getting REALLY tired of all these celebrities waging “secret battles with cancer”…

By Grabthar’s hammer

This is not a good week to be a 69-year-old British man with cancer.
