Celebrity Death Pool 2017

Thanks for the info Superdude

Ignorance defeated.

Bob Cerv, who started ahead of Ted Williams for the American League in baseball’s 1958 All-Star Game, has died at the age of 91. Cerv, who hit 38 home runs in '58 for the Kansas City Athletics, was also a member of the 1961 New York Yankees when teammate Roger Maris hit a then-record 61 homers.

Let me amend that, if I may:

In my area, whenever a body is discovered, police are always on scene to secure the area and make sure there’s nothing unusual. The EMT crew/paramedic will pronounce the person dead. The police will note any medication, name/date of birth/any other information they deem pertinent for their report, and take pictures. Depending on certain factors, the coroner may come to the scene, or may show up at the morgue instead. We always notify the coroner of what the situation is (“white male, early 60s, wife says he has heart problems. Lividity (where all the blood pools because of gravity) is present. Nothing seems unusual”). He makes the call of whether he’s coming to see the scene.

From the time that a call for a body comes in (usually by spouse or other family member), an EMS crew can be there for several hours before they get to take the body to the morgue.

Mine was Joe Paterno… yikes!

British actor Tim Pigott-Smith, best known for The Jewel in the Crown, has died at 70. Or, translated from the metric system, aged 70.

Crap on a cracker.

That appears to be twice that I’ve ruined your day. This guy and the Turner Classic Movies guy. It’s a talent I possess.

New Zealand and Australia’s greatest satirist, Mr John Clarke, has died unexpectedly, at age 68. Known chiefly in New Zealand as amusing farmer Fred Dagg, he gained even more of a following when he and Brian Dawe started their sketch series on the ABC, and is probably mostly known internationally for the great show about the Sydney Olympics The Games.

That sucks!

I loved Clarke and Dawe; i loved The Games; i loved basically everything this guy did.

“The front fell off.” Classic!

Bugger, and once more for enhanced effect. Bugger.
Amongst all the better know works …

The sport of Farnarkuling.

Fred Dagg and the Auckland traffic report
[faux live cross to eye in the sky reporter]
Q. Has the traffic situation improved?
A. Yes, it has. We have some traffic now. Two traffics in fact.

Who else but Clarke could have been the voice of Wal Footrot in Footrot Flats (by the recently lost Murray Ball)?

He and Douglas Adams probably defined my sense of humour.
We sure knew how lucky we were.

We’re all Trevs here, wherever he’s gone.

I agree with every word here, and you’ve said it better than I could have. John Clarke’s humour reached me in a way that very few others have done. The Games was almost perfect, but most things he did were almost perfect.

I’m sad that we have been denied a potential decade or more of his genius.

Of all the New Zealanders that we have tried to claim as Australians, he was the top of the pile (well, him and Neil Finn  ).

He only followed 47 people on Twitter. One of them was me.

Possibly my proudest Twitter achievement.

Late but I gotta say it:

Or is she still a valium? I always wondered if Mel Brooks didn’t borrow the idea of Prince Valium from Rickles. The Carson reruns have done all episodes with Don since his death; a lot of hilarious moments! And maybe on the show like 100 times? I couldn’t find a full list.

My favorite will always be:

J. Geils, age 71, found dead in his home today.

Dammit.
None of my picks (or RTF’s) were found dead in their homes, or anywhere else today.
Dammit.

Hmm, I guess he must not of got lost.

J. Geils, who was not the lead singer of the group. Peter Wolf, who was once married to Fayre Dunaway, is still alive.

FAYE Dunaway. I mistyped and missed the window.

Eugene Lang, founder of the I Have a Dream foundation.

Dorothy Mengering, David Letterman’s mother and frequent guest on the show.

Wow, that’s really impressive.

I thought I was doing well to have the (then) Prime Minister (Kevin Rudd) following me, until I saw that at the time he was following 600,000 people!
