Cell phone holster

Does anybody carry their cell phone in a holster clipped to their belt any longer? I believe it is considered “dorky.” I don’t want to be thought of as “dorky” but I sure hate carrying my phone in my pants pocket.

I used to, back when I only had one from work and used it for work. And of course that was an old flip phone style, not a smart phone.

These days, I have graduated to trousers that have an extra pocket devoted to carrying a smart phone. This pocket is smaller than the usual “cargo pants” extra pockets, it is narrow enough that the phone stays in a vertical position for easy retrieval, and ideally is long enough that the phone fits all the way inside.

It is not simply considered “dorky”. It is dorky. Not quite as dorky as carrying a calculator in a holster, but still dorky. So much so that I was compelled to steal a grown man’s lunch money on a daily basis.

Totally agree but yet I have seen people (always males) doing it

I use the Nite Ize holster, clip it on my front pants pocket. I like it because has a cargo area for all my important cards, no longer carry a wallet.

But I’m a grumpy old man, don’t give a hoot what other people think about it

I saw some dork yesterday with a phone in a holster.

[not that there’s anything wrong with that]

It’s always been dorky. Now it’s outdated and dorky.

Who cares though. Function over style I say! (But I won’t be caught dead with a cell phone holster, hypocrite that I am… I’ll just carry my phone around awkwardly)

I have been carrying my phone in a Pocket Plus pouch for years. For many years my job involved climbing around new 737 airplanes, carry a phone in one’s pocket was not an option. They became popular enough that our tool room started carrying them for a while. They don’t use a clip, it’s a strap with strong magnets that hold it to your belt. The nice part about that if you do have to take it off your belt, just stick it to something steel.

I never used a holster. I recently started carrying a waxed canvas carryall for my smartphone, wallet, hearing aid case, everyday carry knife, etc. I love it.

Here it is.

I’m dorkier than that. I carry my phone in a fanny pack.
And my checkbook. Along with other stuff.

1985 called about your checkbook.

(I’m kidding, I write more checks than most people)

I have to be a victim is a disaster exercise and I’m doing it in character as a dorky tourist.
I am now buying a holster for my costume.

Good cover story.

I used one when phones folded into a roughly palm-sized form, but an iPhone is just too bulky for that.

I have embraced my dorkyness and have worn a holster ever since I had a cell phone. I used to wear a pager on my belt so it was a natural transition for me, plus what else was I going to do with it? Put it in my back jeans pocket and take it out every time I sat down? At least this way its harder to misplace my cell phone unlike my ex-wife who was constantly losing hers.

Why not put it in your front jeans pocket?

That would be uncomfortable and unnatural for me. I only put change and my car keys (when I am out) in my front jean pocket. Plus my cell phone would stick out of my pocket if I tried to jam it in there.

Holster = utter dork.

OTOH there is no great answer to carrying modern size mobiles in men’s clothing.

If I’m wearing a suit jacket or sport coat it goes in the breast pocket.

If not (my 99% case) it’s in the right front pocket of my pants. Which means every time I sit, it comes out to rest on the table, desk, car console etc., and every time I stand up it goes back in the pocket.

The quarter-zip hoodless sweatshirt is my go-to all-occasions look, ever since I found nice looking Carhartt quarter-zips with a zippered breast pocket. It’s the perfect cell phone pocket. Bought one in every color they offered. Good thing I did, because they stopped making and selling them not that long after I’d bought them. Now any time I see a quarter-zip sweatshirt with a breast pocket, I buy as many as I can.

They’re pretty rare, and I don’t understand why. The chest pocket is way more useful than the kangaroo pocket that is standard on most sweatshirts, IMO.

Wow. I few days ago I bought a tracksuit / warmup jacket. So thinnish fleece with a full height front zipper, and two zippered handwarmer type pockets down low.

It also has a small pocket on the left breast with a vertical zipper. I was mystified what that might be for, besides maybe just arbitrary useless decoration.

Now I know; thanks for whacking me w the clue-stick.
