Equipoise, I’m really glad you & the Mr. came out and hope we get the chance to talk more.
Re: the bill, holy cow! I still have garlic breath.
Also: sorry I avoided the zoid (okay, it wasn’t avoiding at all, I just wanted to say that), and missed talking to Cervaise & herownself. Zoid, you should try to make the next lunch!
I think we had two dopers with the most mispronounced names at this fest - Cervaise and Gaudere. I know how to pronounce “Gaudere” by now, and I now know “Cervaise” has more than two syllables, but I don’t remember what they are.
I was in the middle of the table, so I sorta got to talk to everyone a bit, but not to the new folks as much as I would have liked. But it’s not like they were sitting in silence - everyone seemed to be having a great time. Cervaise and herownself, enjoy the rest of your time in Chicago (I’m sure by the time you see this you’ll be back home, though). zoid, Equipoise, and non-doper Mr. Equipoise, I’m glad we have some new fest converts and I hope to see you at a future gathering. Keep your eye on the ChiDope Lunch Bunch thread - it looks like some things may be in the works there.
Correction: Cards and 'Stros tied, both half game ahead of the Cubs. I am extremely envious of both Gundy (mainly, but not exclusively, because she’s been at Wrigley twice this week) and another group of my friends (who will be at the game today).
Enjoyed meeting everyone in my very brief stop-by-and-chug-two-beers visit.
I’d really like that, we didn’t get a chance to talk.
My work schedule is pretty tight but I’ll keep an eye open for lunch dates and if I can sneak out I’ll let you all know.
I’m surprised I could talk to anybody considering the mass quantities of flaming cheese I was busy inhaling. Thumbs up on the beets, too.
Cervaise and herownself, happy anniversary! Enjoy the rest of the weekend, to the melodious sounds of the Air and Water Show. I believe the practice show is happening now.
All the rest of youse, see you next lunch or post-work gathering or when I need bail.
I meant to do this last week, but of course the thread slipped between the time we had the get-together and when we returned to Seattle:
Thank you, everybody, for the hospitality, and for the wonderful evening. The food was fantastic (as was discussed, the tradeoff in Seattle cuisine, as compared to Chicago, is superior seafood for superior Greek; definitely a double-edged sword), and the socializing was great. I can honestly say I enjoyed almost everybody there, with the exception of those with whom I didn’t really interact, who I probably would also have enjoyed but I can’t say for sure because I didn’t get a chance to find out.
And as it was my first time visiting your city, I can also say I had a good time exploring, and was quite impressed at your little burg. Good people, marvelous architecture, lots of culture. My only questions: Is the air always so… chewy? And what’s with all the bugs? More than once, downtown, I’d turn a corner and crash into a haze of gnats so thick it felt like somebody was throwing sand at me. Is that normal?
Anyway, thanks again, and I’m looking forward to the next time we get out there. We managed to cross off only some of the items on our to-do list (I wanted to hit a Cubs game, for example, but there wasn’t an opportunity), so we’ve definitely got reasons to go back, even if you don’t count the People at the Far End of the Table.
