Holy hannah! Riders manage a TD, then a two-point conversion, tying up the score. Well done, Riders!
Just in time to see a TD and 2 pt convert!
Kick conceded! Riders leading 12-11!
With 1:03 left to play in the game.
And the Riders win! Gosh, there was more action in the final two minutes than in some halves. Glad I tuned in.
Celebrating with another Bunny Beer here.
I had the sound turned down, but that looked like the returner (an American player, I’m guessing) didn’t realize that he really needed to return that ball out of the end zone?
That was the speculation in the stands.
If the ball goes through the end zone in a kickoff, there’s no point. But if it stays in the end zone, it’s a point.
That’s the way it seemed to me—that he didn’t realize that he would be conceding a single point, and instead, that the ball would be brought out to the 20, and the Elks would go from there. Nope, not in CFL.
I’ve never been to a game where a rouge and the singles were so important to the overall score.
The player was CJ Sims, a rookie from the States playing his fifth regular season game in the CFL.
There was a shot of him after the play talking to the head coach, who looked like he was trying to keep his temper in check.
I won’t say it’s common, but it’s also not unheard of, for rookies from the US to get the rules of Canadian and American football confused. Naturally, this tends to happen towards the start of the CFL season, but by the end, the American players get the hang of things.
I don’t know what kind of training such players get in Canadian rules, but I’d hope that it would be something more than a half-hour talk in the locker room before their first few games.
Special teams coaches just got some highly useful training video last night!
Here’s an article with an embedded video.
We didn’t go to the stadium for tonight’s game - just too smokey!
QB Harris just being carted off with - rolled over a Calgary player in a scramble for 1st down, looks like serious knee damage.
Before that, speedy returner had two runbacks on kickoffs to score two kickoffs.
I just got in, turned on the TV, and saw something-something-Harris being carted off. Can you explain what happened?
Harris was in short yardage and was carrying it himself to make 1st down. There was a pile-up and he rolled over a Calgary player who was already down, and grabbed his knee right away. Not a foul; just one of those unfortunate pile-ups.
And Calgary scores; 10 pt lead.
And Morrow catches and runs it in - his 3rd touchdown of the night for the Riders. 3 pt game.
Battle of the Dickinson brothers continue.
Thanks for the info on Harris. Watching the game now. Calgary just scored a field goal.
Score: CGY 30; SSK 24, with 1:31 left to play in the game.
Holy hannah! Long bomb by SSK results in a TD! Thought CGY might intercept, but nope.
Only 42 seconds left. This is edge-of-your-seat football.
Dang. Paredes makes a 50 FG with 0:00 on the clock. That’s it.
Coach Dickinson beats Coach Dickinson.
