I should have gotten this one from the flowery language alone. It’s obviously from a “period piece.”
“Nothing’s riding on this except the, uh, first amendment to the Constitution, freedom of the press, and maybe the future of the country. Not that any of that matters, but if you guys fuck up again, I’m going to get mad. Goodnight.”
All The President’s Men - that’s a ‘no quote is non-famous’ film for me. I’ve seen it dozens of times. I even read the book twice.
Heh you’re all over it. ![]()
EDIT: Surprised you didn’t get my earlier “Is there anywhere you don’t smoke?”
EDIT: And also “Woodstein!”
You are correct, sir.
“Sparkling muscatel. One of the finest wines of Idaho.”
Another quick winner! Have I worn out my welcome, or can I try another (yet harder?)?
“It’s information. We collect it, put it together, see what fits. Little things.”
(In response to a throat-slitting gesture) “Why would I put my finger on his throat?”
And later in the film he says:
Finger on throat means death!
Guardians of the Galaxy of course.

“One feels them first in the back of one’s eyes.”
The Jerk
I got the previous one because I used to own it and have watched it more than a couple of times. Same for your last one, Mystic River. I own it and watched it fairly recently.
The Good Thief was actually a great one.
It’s all luck, stick around you won’t wear out your welcome.
Let’s go in another direction…
“Would you like a little more tea?”
“Well, I haven’t had any yet, so I can’t very well take more.”
A guess - Silence of the Lambs?
You and I seem to have very similar taste in movies. And we both enjoy watching the greats multiple times.
I was surprised that Mystic River was completely overlooked in the recent Voting for Greatest Movies threads. It’s among my Top Ten.
My praise for Good Thief – the role which Roger Ebert says Nick Nolte was born to play – would be more lukewarm. Without the soundtrack – featuring Leonard Cohen and Johnny Hallyday during key car escapades – it wouldn’t quite be a favorite.
I hope this, my next submission, will be more of a challenge.
. . . . . . . . . . .
“So you had better start brushing up on your voodoo if you wish to remain sane.”
My praise for Good Thief – the role which Roger Ebert says Nick Nolte was born to play – would be more lukewarm.
I agree it’s not one of the greats but at the time I lived alone and only had several VHS tapes to choose from and that was one of them. I think I got it at a bin sale at Blockbuster. It had it’s moments, definitely watchable, but, yeah, lukewarm.
Every time I see this thread, I have to resist the temptation to just offer “Yes” or “No” as a non-famous line. ![]()
Kind of like the “Suck my dick” line upthread, how many movies has that been in ? ha ha
A guess - Silence of the Lambs?
Right actor, wrong movie.
Darn! Missed it by that much
I feel I can picture him saying it, but I’m remembering the movie.
