Change...is good

Just a quick little note to a few smug twats who don’t seem to grasp a simple point that the rest of us figured out long before starting school.

Changes aren’t necessarily good or bad. Good changes are good, bad changes are bad.

I like changes, I can even think of a few changes to this board that would have been just swell. A like/thanks button, for example, that would be fun. Or fixing the useless search function, that would have been a great change!

Buying a Geocities skin and making a sorry shitload of horrible design and functionality choices, yeah that ain’t such a good change.

But this pit isn’t about the boards changes, its about those sad little gobshites taking great pleasure in labeling valid criticisms as just hurpy durpy Dopers not liking change. I mean, its not like there aren’t a laundry list of identifiable problems with the upgrade, people are quite rightly pointing them out and when something is so obvious you cannot handwave the problems away as being nothing more than moaning from people who just don’t like change.

So, because I can’t say it in ATMB, you twats who felt the need to pretend that everything is perfectly fine and that anybody complaining is just being a grouch for the sake of it, you know what you can go and do with yourselves.

Thank you. I was just about to call out one asshole in particular for such posts.

Amen.

Nice thread. It’s frustrating to see people going into specific details about what they dislike about the new layout, only to have other posters (and I’m thinking of a few specific people here, though they’re in the minority) dismiss them with some smug comment about being scared of change.

Or pay up $10 for a membership. They’re even wrong about that. It’s $14.95.

Yep, smugness it is. Most of the posts (I really couldn’t be arsed to read all of them) not only talk about what they don’t like but also why, i.e. what is specifically wrong with it.

I bet I can guess who…

When people scoff at ‘Resistance to Change’, I hope their village is visited by the Mongol Army.

My gripe. I highlight everything I read on this board because it makes it easier for me to see. Wanna know what doesn’t make it easier to see? Making it green with a green background.

I HATE THIS CHANGE. I don’t care for any of it but that’s the worst. It’s really interfering with my reading.

I heard that if you quote someone, then it changes the quote box text into Italian.

Ho sentito che se qualcuno cita qualcuno, allora cambia il testo della casella quote in italiano.

Well, whaddya know?

Johnny L.A. for the win.

I’m totally on board with this pitting.

Fucking awesome.

I’ve seen different mentions of the new highlight color (not all mentioning the same color, IIRC) but on Firefox here the color is blue–specifically this shade.

Can the highlight color be tied into your desktop theme?

There also some responsive design issues on mobile. But otherwise I like the changes :stuck_out_tongue:

This is definitely the Fourth Turning.

edit: BigT initiated the First Turning with a userscript that makes the site enjoyable to read again.

Put it in a spoiler box. That way, no one will be able to see it unless they quote you.

I loved the one comment (forgot who said it):

For breakfast tomorrow, instead of your usual food, you should try eating your own shit. No? Why are you resistant to change?

I am scared of change, a little bit.

If you make a change, it’s sometimes going to take me a little while to get used to it before I can give a fair opinion on whether it’s ultimately better or worse.

But yeah, some change definitely is for the worse; and I can endorse this pitting.

I agree with the premise of the OP, but some of the complaints I’ve seen give me the impression that some folks are fucking crybabies.
