Just GO already.

Dear Friends,

I’m so glad that you’ve found a new message board that suits your needs so much better than this one. You’ve even got the freedom to say bad words there. Wow, I’m so happy for you, really.

We get it. Things have changed. But do you really have to go on and on and on and on about how you’re going to leave? (No, we won’t try to stop you.) Please, just go be happy and let us do the same.

Sincerely,

Always Brings Pie

P.S. This is not intended towards any poster in particular, it’s just the conglomeration of booing and hooing that I’ve been hearing for awhile. Frankly, I’m tired of it and hope that life can continue on sooner rather than later.

I’m sure that there are those who will find some way to disagree with me. Thus, continue on…

Is that bitter lemon pie you brought? No thank you!

In after thread won in first reply.

Thank you Always Brings Pie. For some insane reason I actually checked out that thread in ATMB, and it’s all repeated claims of dissatisfaction and demands for groveling (because an apology without the exact words, “I’m so sorry and I was terribly wrong please forgive me” just isn’t enough) and threats to leave.

You know, I agree that some of Ed’s new pit rules were… ill-advised. But being a grown person with some degree of self-control and the ability to behave with civility (even online!), I’m not really worried about somehow slipping up and getting banned. Yes, there are other places online where I can curse and insult others to my heart’s content. Nothing says I can’t hang out both here and there.

I’m just trying to wrap my brain around the outrage at the new changes. It’s just not a big deal to me. And I’m just not feeling all the tiresome, long-winded, “You suck Ed, I’m leaving 4ever” posts. Stop bitching and GTFO already. If a business I patronized changed it’s policy to something I didn’t like, and made it clear that they weren’t going to change back, I wouldn’t waste me time complaining. I’d just leave.

As someone once said, “Don’t let the doorknob hit you where the good Lord split you”.

I signed up on both of the “other boards” because I wasn’t sure what was going to be happening here, and I didn’t like some of the things I was seeing here. Not the changes in the board rules, but the way that so many people went on and on and on and on and on…

Okay, I got it the first three hundred times that you said that you didn’t think TPTB were moving fast enough with the upgrade, and then that you didn’t like the changes that Ed was making in the Pit. You expressed your opinion, and when TPTB didn’t seem to be responding you repeated yourself, shouting down anyone who didn’t agree with you that the sky was falling and this was the end of Civilization as We Know It. So take your ball and find another playground, already.

Me too. Unsuprisingly, they’re still going on and on and on at the domebo board. Gives them all a start on their next 20k posts, I guess.

Yep, every time I go there I have to fight the urge to say what I said above. But I don’t want to rock the boat in case I decide to stick around there.

Why can’t I do both?

Hey, it’s just another version of this board, with all the same topics, same questions, and even a lot of the same posters. Many of them post to both boards (or all three, for some reason). I don’t have any intention of going anywhere unless I shoot myself in the foot somehow. The rule changes here don’t change the rules of life, and mean nothing to me in the grand scheme of things. It’s just pixels in cyberspace, ya know?

I’ve seen lots of complaints, certainly, but I haven’t seen a vast amount of people saying “I disagree with this thing - therefore i’m off, bye” repeatedly. There’s a difference between complaints and claims of leaving, surely? Or am I just missing all the “You suck, i’m getting the hell out” posts every five minutes from some posters?

Well, there’s a thread in ATMB that’s in the 1,000 posts neighborhood, and is filled with posts like that.

Apparently, many people confuse the SDMB with the state, and are unwilling to tolerate any rules about civility toward others. I tend to agree with them theat the rules are pretty silly and useless, but they don’t seem to be so egregious as to leave over. 'Course, maybe there is something liberating and thrilling about calling your neighbors cunts that just can’t be explained but must be experienced.

Yes, there aren’t any other threads about anything else.

Not a single one! Thanks for the update, chief!

Oh, I think that’s a bit unfair. I don’t think emasculating the Pit a little is really the primary issue for more than a handful ( though no doubt is secondary for a good number more ). Rather the impression I get is that it was the ham-fisted way in which it was ushered in. These spats with the administration have been ongoing and becoming more frequent in the last year or two. Ed Zotti simply isn’t very good at managing the membership IMO and as he has begun to intervene more heavily recently, the response has been poor.

It doesn’t upset me that much, because…well…most shit doesn’t upset me that much. I’m kinda dead inside that way :p. I just shake my head at the dumbassery and continue on my merry way.

But I don’t blame the “last strawers” as it were. There are legitimate reasons to be annoyed at board management here. Things change and the tone of this board has certainly wandered a little ways from where it was when I started lurking here ~ a decade ago, for good or for ill. I do think insisting on sticking with two splinter boards is kinda retarded, but I promised I’d stop harassing them about that :).

I’ve signed up at both of those alternate boards and will peruse them as they generate interest. Same with the SDMB. They’re all similar enough in their generalization ( as are the Unaboard and others ) to pique my curiosity and neither of the new boards has degenerated into the kind of anarchic free-for-all I’d want to avoid. So no big deal.

But what should stop is silly pseudo-nationalistc cattiness revolving around preference for one over the other(s). That’s kinda pathetic. Far as I can tell the similarities outweigh the differences by a factor of ten.

So don’t read them. People are upset because they care about this board or at least they did. What’s wrong with pushing to keep this board vibrant and interesting? It’s not about wanting to be able to use ‘bad’ words. Why make a change to target a miniscule number of posters while continuing to ignore numerous other issues; board timeouts, some posters getting nailed for junior modding while others blatantly get away with it, etc. I like this board but it’s not nearly as much fun as it used to be, especially in the pit. Should I pretend to like the changes just because you don’t want to hear about it? Screw that.

Okay, I was going to stay out of this crap, because, really, that’s what it is.

Do these stupid rule changes affect me? Nope, probably not. Am I leaving? Nope, don’t think so. I like many of the folks here.

Did I sign up at the other boards? Yes, I did. Not that any of you probably care. I’m not really on anyone’s radar screen here; just mentioned it, is all.

However, there are in fact many other threads at the DoMeBo board. Those that have turned into the tiring bitchfest are relegated to one off-board forum. I really am sick of the sense of superiority that some folks seem to have about that place and the put-downs.

Just shut the hell up about it already. If you don’t like it, don’t go there. The door swings both ways folks…both ways.

I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of currently-active threads about how “teh doep is teh sux!” If I take off my socks, I can probably also count the number of posters actively participating in them. So, yeah, you’re an idiot.

Pie,

Didn’t mean to threadshit, just have had it up to here is all. None of that was directed at you, personally.

I’m sorry, but what? I pointed out that there were people complaining about the SDMB at the domebo boards, so therefore I’m denying that 95+% of the domebo boards exist? Did you ingest some tragic overdose of stupid this morning?

Your post strongly implied that the complaining was the majority of activity over there. I don’t care whether or not you meant to imply that; that was the effect of your post. I should also point out that there’s just as much complaining still going on here, so your point is meaningless in any case.
