Some of you have have decided to change your posting names. Don’t give me that blank stare! You know who you are! And some of you oughta be ashamed of yourselves! Why? Because you don’t have your old name in your sig! I’m sure some of you started a thread about your new name, but I bet there are a lot of Dopers who never went to said thread. Now all of a sudden, we see newish names with these huuuuuuuuuuuge post counts. Who are these people? They didn’t come out of thin air! They’re not me! Who are they? They have to be someone, and dadgum it I wanna know who!
So, if you’ve changed yours recently, say in the past six months, please post here! I need to catch up on some of you. Maybe you could post your old name and why you changed (briefly, of course; I realize some of you have posted in detail all about your name change in other threads).
And yes, I realize there was a thread about this recently. I’m too dadblasted lazy to check on it, but I think it was at least several weeks ago, if not more.
I used to be TopazAntares but a month or so ago I became the one you see here Obsidian Flutterby.
I was TopazAntares because that is my birthstone and Antares is the heart star of Scorpio (my sign).
Now recently I felt in need of a change (I have so many other names on other boards this is the most constant one I have) and I was reading Obsidian Butterfly so I made my name Obsidian Flutterby because butter can’t fly and those cute bugs that everyone calls butterflies really should be called flutterby’s.
Also the Obsidian bit fits in my life now… I seem to have gotten blacker in attitude though I have become something new like a flutterby does when it leaves its chrysalis (of which I was once named long ago though not here)
I changed it to something that didn’t have an anti-social ring to it.
After some thinking about what I would change it to, I decided upon using the name of a character from a book that I enjoyed as a youngster, and still enjoy today.

Actually, I was quite open about it. First, I consulted the Teeming Millions in Should I change my name?.
Based on the feedback I got from the Teeming Half-Dozen who replied, I decided to go ahead with the name change, as recounted in jti is gone. (I even took Green Bean’s advice and went with the capitals, but has she noticed me? Noooooo…)
So who else has changed?

Yep, you’re right, dan. I used to be Democritus. Unfortunately, over the last couple years there have been quite a few comments indicating that people asociated my name with being a democrat or with democracy, instead of associating it with the natural philosopher who was my namesake.
Also, in chat I always go by Demo, so it felt natural to change.
Oh yeah, and it’s easier to type, too!

Anyway, seeing all of these creative (new) names makes me wonder if I should change mine! But how ever could I compare…
I started as Shay519 and got bored and felt that Bookworm might be more appropriate. Then after an extremly blurry weekend, my new name seemed more fitting.
