OK, was the Straight Dope Homepage changed in the last week or so? It looks to me like the fonts and link colors changed. Am I insane, or was there a subtle change here?
Nevertheless it really is unsettling, it doesn’t feel like home anymore when I load up IE. Why, oh why, would you do this to me?
Here’s a possible solution/explanation: Does your mouse have a scroll wheel? If so, perhaps you were using it one day while accidently pressing CTRL at the same time. This will result in the text size changing (depending on which direction you were moving the wheel). You can fix it by clicking on View -> Text Size -> Normal.
Although your description of changed colors would mean that there’s a different problem at play, here.
Well, the main thing is that it seems the link colors are different, the vlinks are a lighter shade of purple now. Also all the gifs as you scroll down the screen are broken. I font style and size seems the same.
I’m sure i’m not imagining it. I hope a mod or admin can confirm.
Hmmm, it has appeared a bit different to me, too, for the past couple days. Only not in any of the ways you guys mention. The difference I see is the background color. It has gone from white to a kinda pukish-tan. Set these colors to see what I mean Red=194, Green=191, Blue=165. Bleah.
Just checking in to verify UncleBeer’s observation. I thought of the color as a ditch-water beige, although when the light is right I can see some pukish-tan too.
Something must have changed in the programming of the front page that no longer forced it’s preferences over ours. Before it has always been bright white, like in the SS pictures but now my preferences have finally taken over and it’s a nice grey, just a tad lighter then the grey I’m typing on right now.
Thank you whoever made that switch, my eyes thank you too.
