How long ago did the word “channelling” start to be applied NOT merely to mystical seance situations but by extension to any situation in which someone is acting like someone else?
e.g., you’re selling carrot juice and homemade organic hummus at the Burning Man festival and it’s crowded and you’re rapidly counting back change to people and your partner says you must be channelling your inner business major.

Never heard it used outside the mystical definition before, but have to say that such use as the cited example does make the point very clear and is a good use of the English vocabulary IMHO.
He means as it is used many times, as in this headline.
