Looking for characters in any medium who are the polar opposite of “a dick”.
I’m thinking “Jesus” counts - even when he got pissed over the temple, it seems like spontaneous genuine anger. And otherwise he usually was all “turn the other cheek”. (Speaking literature here, not religiously).
But, Dr Who, the obvious choice, doesn’t count. He was kind of a dick at the end of Tennant’s life.
Which other characters (or even real life people) epitomize the essence of “never a dick”?
IOW, not only do they never succumb to dickery, but it’s not even in their inherent nature?
I’m thinking perhaps the main guy in Gentlemen Broncos might count. What do you think?
I think the ultimate “never a dick” character is Agent Dale Cooper from the show Twin Peaks. There has never been another character like this, in my opinion. Cooper is unequaled in his combination of confidence and innocence. He’s completely chivalrous, polite, and respectful. He’s not a pushover; if anything, he’s a rock-solid individual who never backs down from anything, yet at the same time he’s never domineering and he doesn’t act like an “alpha male.” He is never arrogant towards the people of Twin Peaks from of his position of authority; as the show goes on, he gradually adopts their lifestyle, right down to the checked flannel shirt. He is, in short, the ultimate gentleman.
And pretty much all of Tom Baker’s run. I’ve been watching some classic Who episodes, and I’m stunned by what a colossal prick the Doctor used to be. It’s great fun to watch, and you know the Doctor always has the best intentions in the end, but it’s astonishing that he makes it through each episode without someone busting him in his buck teeth.
Kinda wish they’d bring some of that back into the new series, to be honest.
When I was skimming the CS page, this thread was right below “Animals eaten young,” and so I initially read this one’s title as “Characters who have never eaten a dick.”
