Charlie Brown on ABC

Why are the Charlie Brown holiday specials coming on ABC this year, instead of CBS?

Also, when is the last time the Thanksgiving special was shown? I don’t remember seeing it recently.

Thanks!

ABC outbid CBS for the rights (and promised to show the more obscure specials like “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving,” unike CBS which would only consistantly show the Halloween and Christmas specials). Though ABC also said that they would show the specials during the “Wonderful World of Disney” slot, rather than on a Tuesday up against the World Series and “Buffy” which is where the Halloween special ended up. (Toy Story got the “Wonderful World” treatment.)

It’s funny how it just seems wrong for the Peanuts specials not to be preceded by that spacey “CBS Special Presentation” intro. Ba-da, da-da-dunt-DUNT! Of course, since CBS itself stopped using it, the move to the Mouse is easier to accept.

It also seems like something is missing without the characters shilling for Dolly Madison snack cakes anymore. Those commercials were part of the national advertising, but they weren’t available where I grew up. I figured they must be great – after all, they were the Peanuts’ favorites!

I must say I was disappointed when I eventually had my first Zinger[sup]TM[/sup].

I’m not sure at exactly what point in my life I’d seen Snoopy indiscriminately hawking enough goods and services for it to no longer affect my thinking. (Metropolitan Life Insurance must be great – after all, it’s the Peanuts’ favorite!)

Zingers seem to have lost a bit of…something…over the past couple of years. At least, IMHO, they don’t quite taste as good anymore.

Zingers are also now made by Hostess rather than Dolly Madison.

Umm, perhaps, zing?
