Charter subscribers, renew now!

I like this better. ::: giggling :::
Thank you very much.

Please, TubaDiva, just this once - give us a sound file on Borborygmi’s post. Or, make Jerry do it.
Peace,
mangeorge

I am waiting for my Paypal to clear. I did the transfer, like, 3 weeks ago. Paypal is saying the expected clearing date is May 1st. Which, is too late!!!

Anyone willing to spot me the renewal fee and I’ll paypal it back to you once mine clears?

Mods, if this is in the wrong place, let me know.

Thanks!
~LV

I’m not embarrassed…

When was that done?
Because I have already renewed, and my expire date now shows as April 28, 2008.

Did the time get added to those who had already renewed, as well as those still awaiting renewal?

Time was added to last year’s subscriptions. Last time the Charter Member™ expiration date was 25. April, I think, but this time a few days were added in compensation to make it 29. April. On the other hand, subscription time is only 365 days, not one year. Since 2008 is a leap year, the next expiry date is indeed 28. April as we don’t get the leap day for free (even though we have been nice and behaved well).

We’re talking approximately $0.02/day, right?
Anyone who needs, or simply wants, two cents send me your address and I’l return to you a check for that amount. I’ll even pay the postage.
It’ll probably mean no graduation gift for my granddaughter, but hey.
Peace,
mangeorge

The grace period was appreciated for those of us who are morons and whatnot.

Pooh. :frowning: I always thought I was a CM but maybe not, and now it seems kinda late anyway.
Couldn’t make the “deadline” because our cc was stolen and the cc was flagging any internet transactions for a while because of hyper-fraud prevention. Oh well.

It does appear that you were at one point a Charter Member, but since your expiration date is June 15, at some point indeed your membership did lapse and you did not resubscribe in a timely fashion.

It’s unfortunate that happened to you and of course we all wish that your situation might have had a different outcome all the way around.

:sniff: An Admin cares.

The CM stuff is window dressing, so it’s no skin off my nose. I’ve got my join date intact so that does say something about my commitment, if not my official “status”.

Thanks for the nice words.

I was a charter subscriber, but for some reason, I did not receive notice of my subscription ending. Now, I was a guest today and had to subscribe for the $14.95 amount instead of the half price amount. I am a little pi$$ed about that. Thanks a lot…

Really? Than how come it says “Charter Member” under your name?

I think now that somebody just might fix that. :smack:

How about “…towards those better than I”?

The whole thing could be simplified into “everyone else on the planet”

This is most likely due to your email on file not being correct, or your email account not set to allow the email from the Straight Dope through (sending it to your junk folder instead).

Not always the case, but likely the culprit. Check to see what the email on file with the board is.

I am sorry you lost Charter Member status, that’s unfortunate.

Here’s what we did over the past month to get your attention:

  1. An announcement of the situation ran on top of every forum page for one month.
  2. Another annoucement ran in ATMB giving all the details of the situation.
  3. We sent out emails to everyone who had not resubscribed several times in this process reminding that time is fleeting and subscriptions need to be paid.

Now if your emails went to your spam trap, or you’ve changed your email and didn’t let us know about it . . . there’s not much more we can do. We did try to make you aware.

As for the change in user title, that will happen over the next few days as the system sweeps through the database and reflects changes made.

Another sincere thank you for the grace period. I knew it was coming up, had intended to get it done, blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda, but it still snuck up on me.

The grace period saved me! I particularly liked the inescapable notification that something was very wrong because I couldn’t search, etc.

Thanks much to Jerry and the gang for all you do.

This looks really screwy to me.

First, robcaro was a Charter Member. One day he logged in, and he had become a Guest. Then he renewed at full (“Member”) price, and his label changed to “Charter Member.” Then, over a few days, the software swept thru and changed his label to “Member.”

Why not give him the correct label at renewal time and avoid all the confusion?

Presumably the renewal simply reactivates the membership account with everything the same as before the account’s status lapsed for non-payment. This is preferable to having the system changing the charter status on it’s own, without the PTB having a chance to step in.

Why must everything that happens on this board result in some sort of criticism of the mechanics of it? :frowning:
