Chas E. , you are a complete tool

Gunna hafta remember that one, for the next time someone starts hiding behind Galileo, Newton, Einstein, whoever, to avoid supporting their goofy theories.

(Oh, and Guin, if he were half as smart as he claimed we wouldn’t be having this discussion.)

Just a quick question, Chas;

What the fuck is your major malfunction?

A match made in hell…

Mythos45 and Asshol.E can be effectively combined into one poster. I suggest MyAsshol.E.

See? All the jackassery, with half the bandwidth (new from Nabisco).

You all have to stop picking on Mythos he HAS been here for a WHOLE 4 days. I think he would know a bit more than Chas.E than we would. :rolleyes:

Just a minute. MYTHOS?

Someone who chose a name from Highlander is telling us that animé fans are pathetic???

The guy from Highlander is Methos.

Oh, by Buddha’s flaming hemorrhoids, if only there could be only one.

Pardon me, I’m more of a Trek geek.

See? All the jackassery, with half the bandwidth (new from Nabisco).

I would never have believed that my internet connection was slow enough to double post a full hour apart.

Now I know.

<flamebait>

Feh. Let him say what he wants. We all know that all true otaku (by the MyAsshol.E definition) are also Mac users.

</flamebait>

And FWIW, I’m guessing that goboy was thinking of otoko when he posted. A simple enough misreading, I suppose.

And, Tengu, if you don’t mind, I would like to learn the etymology of otaku. Sounds like fun. :slight_smile:

I was wondering how far this would go before the all-knowing, all-powerful King Mac was mentioned.

Criminy, I didn’t even think of that. Good call, Battousai. (My attempts to learn Japanese have lapsed(guess that’s what happens when you try to do it on your own…), sadly.)

Sure. :slight_smile: Short form, off the top of my head (some details might be wrong - if so, and I’m not corrected by then, I’ll get back to you after sleeping and then looking it up):

Literally, ‘otaku’ means ‘house’. It came (through some path that I’m unsure of) to be a very formal form of ‘you’.

Eventually, it fell out of usage in this sense, eventually only used by the Uber-Geek-set, who used it as sort of an identifier.

Where it went from there is fairly simple (IMO). ‘Oh, dear, those people who call each other Otaku are quite odd, aren’t they?’ ‘Yes, those “Otaku” are indeed quite strange.’ ‘Scary, really.’

And, thus, an insult is born. (An insult, that, like its English analogue Geek, many people to whom it would be attatched wear as a badge of honour.)

He’s also a tool because he thinks the Japanese are the only authoritative source on rice preparation and consumption, blatantly forgetting that the rest of the rice eating world doesnt look to them.

[sub]And no, I dont forget stupid mistakes like that[/sub]

“Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo, it is not sufficient to be persecuted by an unjust authority. You must also be right.”
–Martin Gardner

Actually, to the best of my knowledge “they” never laughed at Newton. They give him a prestiguous post in Cambridge University instead.

Although I’m sure a few students had a chuckle at how nerdy he was.

To be fair to Chas.E, he has been fairly consistent. To sum up:
Japan good, anime bad.

Maybe I’m oversensitive, but Chas seemed a little to quick to hurl insults(sans profanity) in a non-pit thread.
