OK like everyone else I am trying to reduce my bills. I saw an ad from CUB (Citizens Utility Board) about how AT&T (at least in Illinois) was forced to offer a basic cheap service. So I changed my phone plan. And it’s great, cheap and all I need.
So I though gee DSL would be nice but I don’t really need it. I never download anything. I thought it’d be great if AT&T was forced to offer cheap DSL.
I was bored last night and I went all through their website and you know what, they ARE forced to offer it. LOL
Well in a way, apparently when SBC bought out AT&T to get the FCC to agree to a merger they had to agree to offer a cheap $10 DSL to their customers.
Now it’s the lowest tier (up to 768kbs) but the modem or router is free with a rebate.
If you go here AT&T DSL you will notice they don’t put it outright on their site. If you look at the left it says Basic DSL $14.99. If you look UNDER that it says “Even at a lower price”
This is my gripe, I guess requiring them to offer it and not making sure they actually TELL anyone about it are two different things…LOL
This is only available in certain areas, so you may have AT&T and not qualify, if you already have it or if you’re not in an area purchased by SBC. Also you can’t downgrade, you have to be a new sign up
I just thought I’d mention it, in case someone may qualify and want to reduce rate
