Cheers Trivia

slack1: To prove how hot Robin Colcorde’s new French girlfriend was, who did Norm show her picture to, and what was his response?

Didn’t he show it to Barry, a heretofore little-seen character with a certain . . . swishy air about him, shall we say? And Barry’s reply was: “I’d switch.”
OK, time for my one question:

airb1: Where did Gary of Gary’s Old Town Tavern go to college, what was his major, and what academic honor did he earn? (And what was Diane’s response?)

The Tanning Salon? He gave a lot of the money to the gang at Cheers even those they chose not to invest with him in the venture.

And… he bought a cool fur hat.

Yes, he’s the only character in the entire run to be played by two different actors (the producers had a strict ‘one actor, one role’ policy). To make things more confusing, the two actors switched off & on, so that the annual ‘Cheers vs. Gary’s Old Towne Tavern’ episode featured alternating actors in the part.

c7. According to Rebecca, the highlight of her young life was when she was 16 and did what?

I’m drawing a blank. Was it something to do with food?
Since no one’s answered it, i’ll give it away: Rebecca told Wam the highlight of her life was when she was 16, ran away to San Francisco and hung out with Grace Slick.

Actually, Derek was a pilot for an unspecified international trading firm. (He took Diane on a private flight to Paris on his own plane - incurring Sam’s desperate jealousy.)

I don’t remember the character’s name, but the actor was John Mahoney (who later appeared as Frasier’s dad on his own show). The jingle he came up with was a blatant rip-off of E-I-E-I-O.

Can’t remember the character’s name (but it rhymed or was alliterative) but he was played by a pre-Martin Crane John Mahoney.

I have another situation in mind, actually. Hint:

Sam expected Norm to put at least some of the windfall to use against his tab at Cheers.

He won at repeatedly at roulette playing black 17 (The 17th being his and Vera’s anniversary).

He spent the money on a boat for Sam.

No, I’m pretty sure that’s the begining of the chorus. The song begins with:

Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you got.
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.

I’ve never heard that part of the song–I guess it isn’t played when the episodes are rerun in syndication.
Some new questions:
dm21. In another opening shot, Norm pulls his shabby little Honda Civic up in front of Cliff’s mail truck. He notices a parking ticket on the mail truck’s windshield. Then what happens?
dm22. In the episode where Rebecca and Norm start a house-painting business, Norm finds out he’s lost a big account and tries to head off Rebecca from telling off an executive in her company, but building security won’t let him go up to the office to tell her. How does he warn Rebecca?
dm23. What 60s rock star shows up at Cheers (during the time Rebecca is dating
Robin Colcord)?
dm24. And what stupid question does Woody ask him?
dm25. In the episode where Cliff takes shock treatments, who winds up using the remote on Cliff at the end?
dm26. In the episode where Sam has a dream about talking to Elvis, what does Sam say that makes Elvis angry?
dm27. When Cliff decides to handcuff himself in his house (so the developer won’t tear it down), what happens after he says he’s lost the key?
dm28. When some loudmouthed New Yorker (at least I think he’s a New Yorker) rants about how the Red Sox haven’t won anything and that “The [Boston] Bruins stink!”, who greets him at the door before he can leave?
dm29. What happens to Cliff’s plans to market the “Beetabaga,” as he calls it?
dm30. Why does Rebecca’s corporation invite Sam to join their softball team?

Correct!

Yep. When the number hit Sam’s date started jumping up and down and by the time she stopped Sam had accidentally let Norm’s winnings ride.

dm22. In the episode where Rebecca and Norm start a house-painting business, Norm finds out he’s lost a big account and tries to head off Rebecca from telling off an executive in her company, but building security won’t let him go up to the office to tell her. How does he warn Rebecca?

He mounts one of those window washer’s scaffoldings and holds up a sign that says “NO JOB” so Rebecca can see it through the window.

dm25. In the episode where Cliff takes shock treatments, who winds up using the remote on Cliff at the end?

It was that weird old guy. Al maybe? Incidentally, they gave that guy some of the best throwaway lines.

dm30. Why does Rebecca’s corporation invite Sam to join their softball team?

It is something less obvious than the fact that they needed a good pitcher?
One of the Righteous Brothers, whom Robin had paid to sing “Unchained Melody” for Rebecca.

I was hinting at some ulterior motive that the execs had in mind. Sam got wind of it and was furious.

Correct (although it was “beff”). And you’re probably right about the “loobster”; I probably didn’t remember it right.

Still unanswered:

W1: In the episode when Sam sold his 'Vette to Woody, what kind of car did Sam buy? And what did he call the color?

W2: When Sam admitted to Woody that he was an alcoholic who “drank myself out of baseball and a marriage”, why was Woody so incredulous?

W3: In the finale, how did Sam get the Cuban cigars? And what was Carla’s comment?

W5: On the first Lilith episode, something happened to Frazier on his TV appearance with Lilith. According to Sam, what was it?

W6: Who played Cliff’s postal worker girlfriend? And what did she do when they were caught violating Postal Service regulations?

Okay, a few more for the road -

 • When Carla enters the ‘Miss Boston Barmaid’ contest, what category did she win?

 • In that same episode, what did the overall winner of the contest remark to Sam?

 • According to Woody, what wild & crazy act do folks in Hanover, Indiana do at bachelor parties?

 • What was the pseudonym Norm concocted to coax his crew of house-painters to do actual work?

 • Diane claimed to have led a successful college protest to include a neglected minority group into her sorority? Whose cause did she champion?

Doesn’t Carla jump on his back and bang his head against the bar?

They dress farm animals up in women’s clothes.

A volare, but I don’t know about the color.

“I won that shiny red car!”

No. Several members of the Bruins accosted him. It looked to me like THEY were going to do what you figure Carla was going to do to him.
I also apologize for formatting my post improperly about Al Rosen and the shock-treatment remote. :o

Why does Diane sweat when she bowls?

She bowls in tweed.
