Captain Amazing’s version claims to come from Lexis-Nexis, and while it’s not Socks the cat, it is pretty damning of Limbaugh. It proves the point the ‘Socks’ version invariably is brought up to make - that Limbaugh insulted a 13-year old girl for her looks.
And is consistent with the story as I understand it to have actually happened, and contradicts the “Socks the cat” version of the story. It would appear to support my point.
I’m not seeing, “Can we get a picture of the cute dog?” (Picture of Chelsea Clinton appears) to be substantially different from the purported Molly Ivins version. Especially considering the non-apology that followed.
I do appreciate the ignorance-fighting here, and would rather have Limbaugh’s actual words attributed to him. But his actual words don’t paint him in any better light than the incorrect version does.
It’s not unusual for quotes to get paraphrased or altered in the retelling for the sake of a better story, and it seems likely that the story above got turned into the “And this is the White House dog” story. The joke/implication is the same in both stories (that Chelsea Clinton is being confused with a dog), but the Irvins story is more succinct and has more punch than the original one.
The fact that Limbaugh’s an inveterate asshole is what makes the “White House dog” story plausible, so he gets no sympathy from me even if he has been misquoted.
And the OP’s an idiot. The saturation news coverage (well, saturation coverage of whatever you could see from two miles away) was at most annoying. The only reason one might have for blaming Chelsea is if one is a drooling moron.

But damn, this girl has been in the news for over a week. Every other picture is this homely girl. Honestly, I don’t care if it is the most beautiful woman in the Galaxy. I am tired of looking at her.
In most news and information websites that I go to, there she is. The thing about it is, the dingbats, people who watch American Idol keep requesting this story.
It is really not that much of a story. 30 year old professional woman gets married. Parents are famous and rich (versus rich and famous, they were famous first then got rich later.) Yeah. Enough.
[shrug] It’ll be the same next time Angelina or J-Lo gets married. That’s how it is. There are far more annoying or egregious things than that in modern American culture to get pissed about.
