I’ve had a thing for Chelsea ever since we were going through our awkward teenage phases together.

I shook hands with her at a rally the night before her dad got re-elected in '96. She clearly wanted me, but alas, she had to return to her world and I to mine.

I’m sure she and the runner-up will be very happy together.

Of course, the only worthy thing to judge women by are their looks.

Intelligence, accomplishment, compassion, wit, wisdom, these count for nothing.

By all accounts, Chelsea is a well adjusted, nice person.

But this means nothing because she doesn’t excite the hormones of most men. Therefore, she is worthless.

It’s great to be a woman in today’s world.

I’m pretty sure that most men do value and judge women by many factors other than looks. I have female friends who have many of the qualities you say count for nothing. Plus wonderful female members of my family.

Most men are not as you describe, and most women most likely don’t share your view, even though they would probably agree that complete equality has not come to women yet.

I do agree that to judge Chelsea on her looks is strange and somehow twisted. Seems to me she must be pretty remarkable to have become the woman she is, given her exposure and experiences as the daughter of her parents.

On the other hand, we could be talking about Lindsey Lohan…Wonder how the comments would have gone in a thread about her. (Not trying to derail the thread; just offering a tidbit for thought)…

Yes, but this thread is a great example of Cats’ point. I see it all the damned time on here. Any thread about a female celebrity (or politician or scientist, or whatever) will have multiple posts debating her attractiveness, even when the reason she is known or getting news attention has nothing to do with her looks.

Chelsea Clinton isn’t a model. Yulia Tymoshenko isn’t a Playboy centerfold. Yet they will repeatedly get judged on their appearance. This doesn’t happen with threads on men (who are not in the entertainment business), unless they happen to be abnormally smokin’ hot. Even then, it happens much less frequently.
I mean, for god’s sake, a woman could make headlines about finding the cure for AIDS, and many conversations or threads would include things like, “man, she really needs to get a better stylist” or “jesus christ, look at that friggin’ underbite!”. How demeaning is that?

Yeah, but I mean, she can always use her Nobel Prize money to buy some plastic surgery, so it’ll be fine.
