Chemical plant explosion in Texas City, Texas

A BP chemical plant in Texas City, Texas exploded today. Flames could be seen from Clear Lake Texas to Galveston- a distance of about 45 miles. Early reports state about 25 in critical or serious condition in area hospitals. Lets hope that is the worst news we will hear about it.

Some may remember when Texas City itself was destroyed in 1947. Amazon carries an interesting book about that disaster: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbninquiry.asp?pwb=1&ean=9780060185411

I meant to add that this plant produces about 3 percent of US gasoline supplies.

Sheeeeit! I live in Dickinson, about 10 miles away, and didn’t hear or see a thing! When did it happen? I have friends there!

CBS Marketwatch article about it from Google News.

Here’s the Housotn Chronicle article.
