Explosions Rock Industrial Area of Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Several explosions engulfed a chemical plant in flames Wednesday, forcing a broad evacuation as the fire spread to nearby houses and spewed a toxic, sticky substance that residents were warned not to touch.

Fire officials also told residents throughout the city to avoid picking up debris carried by the dark cloud that streamed out of downtown, saying the material was highly toxic. The cloud appeared to be dropping a sticky substance as it moved to the southwest over the metropolitan area.

Emergency responders from the Environmental Protection Agency were at the scene, in the city’s East Bottoms section.
I hope this doesn’t cause lasting health problems! I wonder if new standards for such facilities are going to be implemented? It said the factory had been running for fifty years without a problem.
Here is an article from Kansas City’s website. Here is Reuter’s coverage as well.
Yesterday I saw a headline for this. It said: “Bottoms Explosion Causes Evacuations”
I tried, oh, how I tried not too laugh, my my inner Beavis and Butthead couldn’t help it.
