Nice little country you got here. Be a shame if anything happened to it.
Thanks! I feel much better educated now, Professor Whooshy McWhoosmeister.
Absolutely. Nothing works to distract people from the failures of the status quo like fear.
You’e sort of being whooshed. sorry to ruin the joke by explaining it, but it’s a play on the similar sounds in “Nostradamus” “Notre Dame.”
Well, at least you don’t have to worry about bursting into laughter in the middle of an important meeting tomorrow, and then having to explain it.
I think the difference here is that Cheney is strongly implying that electing Kerry president will directly result in a specific terrorist attack, not just more terrorism. That’s a little beyond the pale.
And Maud’Dib. How ya doin’?
Speaking of Quasimodo…
There’s a statuary place that I drive by occasionally. Every time, I have to shout out “Statuary! Statuary!”
Hee-hee!
::fade out:: Quasimodo gazes ruefully at the gargoyles, mumbling, “why could I not have been a Stoner like these?”
Quasimodo…I don’t quite recall the name, but his face sure rings a bell.
sorry
Are you mistaking him for his brother? He was a dead ringer for him.
A little tired, been chasing my four year-old nephew and his dog all day.
lissener posted something I agree with. Better watch out for flying pigs.
 Great Og! You mean nonpolar is now a mod?
Hey, I said flying, not talking!
And phooey on anyone planning to link to Liberty Meadows.
Could you explain that joke, please? I feel so left out.
Well bless your little heart. Everyone has their own little opinion these days, don’t we? Some are correct like mine, and other come from somewhere… somewhere like- I don’t know… SATAN.
I just think it’s a degrading thing for a Veep to do. I think it is beneath the dignity of the office. I’m a Republican who dares to expect more. So sue me.
Note the different parties involved. Note also that Cheney, by virtue of his office and obligations to lead and represent the republic is qualitatively different than “someone” in ways that make the comparisons of their behaviors not the most relevant thing in this instance.
I’ve heard ‘someone’ go on about lizard-people before and I didn’t raise more than an eyebrow. But if Mr. Cheney were to do so, I’d raise a stink as well as an eyebrow.
Plus see comments above re ‘the dignity of the office.’
Also see comments about ‘daring to expect more.’
Not that it matters even one whit, but, no, I did not call them asswipes. Mostly, I don’t give green-polka-dotted Ogdamn when just any old “someone” says some self-demeaningly moronic shit. When I’ve happened to give enough of a fuck to comment I used a phrases more like ‘punked-out bitch.’
Consider, that your statement contains even less content than, "And guess what,
SOME OTHER PEOPLE DO IT TOO!
"
I love your choice rhetorical device, though. The one where you lump together a large disparate group of people to use as a model for a straw effigy. Mr. Limbaugh is a master of the practice. ( You, sir, are a rank amateur.) In this instance it matters not one whit that “The Left” (ubiquitous, amorphous and anonymous as they may be) has said or done any number of jackassed things.
The “Left” does it too.
That really the best you’ve got, punk?
Muad’Dib: The Left does it too!
Mommy: So, if the Left jumped off a cliff would you do it too?
A six-year-old’s excuse.
Oh, dear lord. What a bozo thing to say. If that’s the road Republicans are going to start heading down, then the Democrats have hope after all.
If I remember my Disney correctly, Quasimodo was adopted by a French cleric when his mother sought sanctuary at the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Statuary is a play on words from someone shouting for sanctuary.
Note: for simplicity I’ve left out the facts that a) Disney didn’t originally write the story b) the French cleric was 16th level and rolled a plus 5 to stun and c) any bad jokes tying this all back to The Cult.
*[Cheney] also said if Mr. Kerry was elected the nation risked lapsing to a "pre-9/11 mind-set’’ where attacks are viewed as criminal acts, not part of a war against terrorism. *(Read: a time when the government actually protected rather than superseded individual rights -MB)
*Anne Womack, a spokeswoman for Mr. Cheney, said that the vice president’s comment was taken out of context, and that he was addressing policy differences. "Whoever is elected is going to face the prospect of another terrorist attack,’’ Ms. Womack said. “The question is whether we will have the right policies in place to protect our country.” *
So. The time-honored startegy of the Bush Administration continues. Drop remarks like this about the opposing candidate to sow doubt in the impressionable, often willingly uninformed minds of the undecideds; then order your mouthpiece to strike a cowardly disingenuous stance of oh, he didn’t mean that. You’re taking it out of context.
Dirtbags. My country is currently run by a gang of dirtbags.
