Cheney: Terror Attack if Kerry Elected

And you have the reading comprehension and the disengenuos nature of one.
My main point was that this is not any different fro what Bush et al have been saying all along, from what any candidate would say, that “I am better at protecting you than the other guy”.

Yes, I quite take your point.

A candidate might say “My opponents judgement is clearly unreliable”. Or he might say “My opponent goes to children’s birthday parties and rips out the throats of puppies with his teeth!”

Really, they’re both just saying “Vote for me”.

Of course, the next day there’d be the obligatory spokesperson saying that those remarks were taken out of context, that there’s no strong evidence that any dogs were harmed.

Perhaps George could chime in. Tell us his thoughts on the Cheney’s quote …?

Thank you, sir. As always, we appreciate your thoughtful reply.

They forgot to mention…

Sources say one of the reporters could be heard asking, “What is in Room 101?”, before the doors shut.

LilShieste

I looked up when I heard the “Whooooosh”, but was unable to read the banner behind the plane.

(IOW - a little help here wrt the ‘what is in Room 101’???)

I assure you, darling, that he shared with the reporters exactly what was going through his head.

Here. Brush up on your Orwell.

thanks. Read that in jr. high, which was a looooooooong time ago for me. Obviously that detail didn’t stick. Must not have been on the final.

Is anyone interested in the context of the quote?

From: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/09/20040907-8.html

It certainly sounds to me that Cheney is not claiming that Terrorists are more likely to attack us if Kerry is elected. In fact, it would take a wilful misrepresentation of his words to make it seem that way. In fact, it would be dishonest to claim that. Now, why would a newspaper chop up Cheney’s words to make it seem he had said something that he actually had not?

Well, there’s that old liberal media bias the kids are all so crazy for. But me, I attribute it mostly to laziness. Just like you all assumed the quote was taken in context, probably most newspapers who published the quote assumed it was taken in context and didn’t actually listen to the speach or read the transcript themselves, they just publish whatever comes over the AP wire.

Care to enlighten us here? I read the excerpt and my interpretation is the same: Cheney is saying that if we don’t make the right choice on election day, we will be risking a terrorist attack. What other choice is he talking about?

Thanks for the link.

This is remarkable.
What are you saying he meant when he said, “…if we make the wrong choice [ on November 2nd], then the danger is that we’ll get hit again… ?”

In fact, it would take a wilful misrepresentation of his words to make it seem that way. In fact, it would be dishonest to claim that.{/quote] Not to try and steal your fire or anything but even if you do ever bother to get around to demonstrating how Cheney meant something different than what it looks to me like he meant, I can still tell you that what I did (even if it turns out to be a misrepresentation) was not a willful misrepresentation. Of that I’m sure. I cite my certainty as an authoritative citation for my sureness on this issue.
Therefore I have to call bullshit on the claim that it would take willful misrepresentation and dishonesty to make sucha claim.

Note that I cited FOX news online.
What’s more, I used the headline that FOX originally sent the story out with for the title of the thread.
So, as you do, I too can see why one would be hesitant to trot out the hackneyed Liberal Media[supTM[/sup] whine.

I’m very interested in your alternative interpretation of Mr. Cheney’s words. I hope that you decide to share.

He’s backtracking now.

I also have to post this, the most stupid fucking thing yet in this election.

“Cheney on economic numbers: Don’t forget about eBay”

Ah, so when Cheney does it, it’s backtracking.
When Kerry does it, it’s flip-flopping.

I get it now.

And I just checked out that bit about eBay.

Well, that simplifies things. Sell whatever you have on eBay, and it’ll smooth things out for you economically.

speaking of flip flopping, I saw Kerry on the Daily Show last night and Stewart asked him about that. He had some lame-o reply like “yeah I guess I’m some 'ol flippidity flap flapper”. Why couldn’t he have said “look, people make decisions at a certain points in time, and then sometimes circumstances change, and you need to call for a different course of action. They make this out like it’s a bad thing”. Why the hell couldn’t he have said that? Probably the same reason he’s losing this election, he’s an idiot.

Yes!

If he does lose, his stupid pride will take a large part of the blame. As you point out, he refuses to engage them on the merits of remaining nondogmatic and open-minded to circumstances that change (i.e., “flip-flopping”) just as he refuses to say he made a mistake in voting to give the President the authority he did. “If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing.” That’s the kind of stubborness that’s making even his staunchest supporters look at him funny.
