this is all very lovely, but when, oh when, are we gonna get a good diet strawberry carbonated beverage?
You can buy Cheerwine online at www.cheerwine.com !!!
This thread is WHACK!
How come nobody’s brought up how good Cherry Dr. Pepper tastes when you’re drinking it alongside a bowl of popcorn sprinkled with BACON SALT?
I found it here in Pittsburgh recently too! I wish I could get the other flavors – it wouldn’t have to be diet, just caffeine-free. sigh I’m a total Dr. Pepper addict, yet I cannot have caffeine.
OK, I’ll rephrase. Just because you don’t care about the difference doesn’t mean that other people shouldn’t.
Cisco, you are, in my opinion, wrong. I have stated that my opinion is based upon a contemporaneous side-by-side taste test. Yours?
And even if YOU think they taste alike, the fact that more than one person here disagrees means that your sense of taste may not jive with others. Thought of that?
I could say hamburgers taste like hamburgers and 5 different dopers would jump up and scream that they taste NOTHING like hamburgers, so the fact that a few of you disagree means nothing at all to me. Cherry Dr. Pepper is extremely similar in taste to Cheerwine. That is a fact and you just look silly denying it. Just because a difference is detectable doesn’t mean they’re “noooothing alike.”
And it’s “jibe.”
Now I’m wishing I could taste this Cheerwine stuff. I’m really good about tasting differences – I truly do not get the people who can’t tell between Pepsi and Coke, or between Sprite and 7up (especially now with the so-called “natural” 7up, which is worse than the original IMO). To me it’s like not being able to tell the difference between orange and grapefruit juice. They’re not the same at all! And I’m not one of those “super-tasters” or anything. At least I don’t think so. I’m assuming I’d know if there were something preternatural about my tasting abilities!
Alas, I’ve never heard of Cheerwine before, though. There surely ain’t none here in NYC.
(Apparently you can get it from Amazon, but not the caffeine-free variety, alas.)
I like both. I’m a newcomer to Cheerwine, but I’ve been in love with Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper since it’s inception AND I’ve been drinking Dr. Pepper all my life.
Cheerwine is wonderful stuff though, and the radio commercials are frickin’ hilarious!
This is entirely possible, but I did go through several bottles on vacation. It’s great stuff, but I didn’t see the connection.
I don’t really have a big stake in this fight, other than to say that I’d like to see Cheerwine in the Northeast.
Sound Mind, while I understand that I could order it, the shipping would kill me.
You are making a statement that you have not indicated can be accepted as accurate, yet. In your mind, they are similar, but did you attempt a side-by-side taste test? Or are you comparing Cherry Dr. Pepper against your memory of Cheerwine? I’m assuming you don’t get to drink Cheerwine in your current location, right?
You say that to you they are “extremely similar.” To me, that’s just a set of weasel words. Maybe if I applied your definition of “extrememely” I’d agree, but in the absence of an indication that you have actually done a side-by-side testing of their tastes, I’ll give your opinion all the weight that memories of such things deserve.
Oh, and “b” and “v” are right next to each other, so sue me.
Its always the same story, when people get tired of abortion and death penalty debates, they move on to the Great Dr. Pepper Debates. If you really want to piss my mother off, just make fun of Dr. Pepper.
I already said I do.
Edit: I can ride my bike to this place and they have or can get pretty much any soda that can be had or gotten in the United States.
Oho, I know that store! I used to go to the Arby’s right next to it for lunch. I never did go in or find out more about it, but I might pay a visit now.
Oh you should. It’s awesome. They have everything. Even Dublin Dr. Pepper which is allegedly impossible to get in some places.
Although I’ve never tatsed Cheerwine nor Cherry Dr. Pepper, perhaps you flavor mavens would find a distinct, yet median, satisfaction in good ol’ Faygo Rock and Rye Cream Soda. From your descriptions, it sounds like a perfect compromise between this Cheerwine and Cherry Dr. Pepper. It’s an old favorite, delicious and unique.
I’ve had it. Many times. It’s not even close. It’s not the same ball park, not even the same sport.
When you find out, tell me. The Strawberry Crush and Fanta taunt me endlessly. I did find diet grape (Kroger store brand, which means, alas, you can only get it at Kroger stores) and diet orange, but diet strawberry doesn’t seem in enough demand to bother with.
I hate to sound redundant, but Faygo makes a decent Diet Redpop. Noticeably diet, but the bright and crisp strawberry flavor makes up for it. It’s especially good as a mixer to vodka (Thanks T&M!).
