I love all the other Diet Dr. Pepper incarnations, so I thought I’d give this one a try.
I’m not much of a soda drinker, but I can usually get through a 20 oz. bottle when I’m in the mood, but I’ve been nursing this all day and still can’t find it within me to finish (or even take more than a single swig every half hour or so).
It’s not that it tastes bad, it just tastes…well, wrong. Definitely a chocolate taste, but more in the aftertaste then when your mouth first hits the carbonated angle.
It’s weird, and not something I’ll be trying again. I’ve already found it strange that recent TV commercials have essentially been marketing the drink as a candy, but this is one step too far.
I picked up a 12-pack. It’s not bad; but pretty freakin’ far from what I think of as Dr. Pepper.
Have they changed the basic formula since I was a kid? I remember Dr. Pepper as being distinctly different from other sodas – it would actually burn my nose when I drank it. That was back in the '60s, when it wasn’t available everywhere; maybe they toned it down for the mass market.
My boyfriend about crapped his pants in excitement when he saw it. He thinks it’s a new evolution of flavors for your mouth. Personally, I think it just makes me thirsty. (Like, not for more of it. For water.)
I shared a 20-oz bottle with approximately seven other people through the day. We as a group were barely able to make a dent in it, and I think each of us drank from it just to see whether it was truly as awful as we thought it would be.
It tastes like vomit. Really. Like you had eaten some chocolate and cherries while drinking Diet Dr. Pepper, and then threw them up. Not a good combination. It just tastes wrong on a fundamental level.
I haven’t tried it yet. I’m waiting for a sale on Dr Pepper, probably closer to Super Bowl time. I anticipate it would taste a little like caramel flavored Diet Pepsi Jazz, which I do enjoy.
That would sound good if it were not diet. The only diet drink I touch is water, period. But Dr. Pepper is one thing I miss about the US, and I always drink it in large quantities on my trips there. I hope there is a non-diet incarnation by 2011, my next scheduled trip there.
I bought a bottle out of curiosity the other day. Yeah, it was… um, different.
Not really bad, but very sweet. Not something I’d drink because I was thirsty.
I tend to drink all day, usually water and tea. The Chocolate Cherry Diet Dr Pepper would make me sick if I drank 2 or 3 of them over the course of the day.
Chocolate by its very nature should be thick and creamy. That’s the only mouthfeel that really works with it. I can’t imagine a chocolate soda that has any chance of being not-nasty.
My beloved kung fu lola brought some to our house the other week, and left it with us.
As Og is my witness, I haven’t the faintest idea what I’m going to do with it. I think future archaeologists will find it, intact, in the remains of our refrigerator midden.
