Cherry season! How do you deal with the, uh, aftermath?

Mmm, cherries. Like cucumbers dipped in ranch, this is a finger food I end up getting way carried away with if I’m not very conscious of how much I eat. And I just picked up three pounds from the farmer’s market today (along with lettuce and homemade rocky road, mmmm).

Unfortunately, overdoing it on cherries (and I have no real conception of where that line is, sadly) gets me, well, constipated. Any recommendations or tricks to deal with that? Because I loves me my cherries!

Prunes.

Local cherries have just come to the markets, along with Oregon strawberries. It’s a short season, sadly. On the plus side, pears, peaches and nectarines are on the way.

Even if I didn’t dislike plums and prunes, I wouldn’t have room to eat any more after the cherries. :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t swallow the pit.

Hm! I’ve never had that problem with cherries. Cheese, yes, but not with cherries.

Yeah, I’d say, prunes or prune juice.

(A very dear friend taught me how to remember the “Pagan Virtues.” Temperance, Fortitude, Prudence, and Justice: “Time For Prune Juice.”)

I find this problem surprising. Surely cherries have plenty of fiber?

Are you sure you mean constipated, as opposed to having to do a lot of poop?

Have some greens, coffee can get things moving if it’s a mild issue, half a magnesium tablet. I think I’ve purchased 6 pounds of cherries in the last 2 weeks. I haven’t had this problem. I also over indulge in the fresh caught wild salmon that are running this time of year.

Oddly enough, overindulgence in cherries has a diametrically opposite effect on me. And the only cure I know of is to eat them with a large wedge of sharp cheddar to sort of, ummm… balance things out.

OK, TMI. And a total non-answer to the OP’s question…

Fisting. And plenty of it!

Papaya. Eat ripe papaya with the cherries, the flavors should go well together. And reserve the bathroom for your private use the next day.

Yes, I do. Perhaps I’m doing the correlation/causation thing, but that’s what seemed to happen to me. Cutting back on the amount I ate each day seemed to return things to balance, as it were.

If it is really something else, and I really am confusing correlation with causation, I’d be very relieved, actually!

Apple juice does the trick for me, no idea why.

For me eating some ice cream balances things out. But then again, eating ice cream has that effect on me no matter what else I eat. :frowning: YMMV, of course.
