I’ve always been a fan of quirky music. I was listening to the early 80s band, Fabulous Poodles the other day and have always wondered about one song, Chicago Boxcar Boston Back.
The singer says that he “just got back to town, but instead of just hanging around,” he “went to the barbershop.” He then goes on to say, “that medium trim went out today, it’s all streamlined hair and Chevrolet.” apparently, he gets a Chichago Boxcar haircut with a “Boston back.” (“Chicago Boxcar Boston back, you can get ahead with a style like that.”)
Does anyone know if this is a real hairstyle and if so, can they describe it? While we’re at it, what does it mean to “Chevrolet” your hair?
I know a “B52” is a beehive style hairdo, what other weird slang is there for hairstyles, aside from a “Duck Ass” (DA) and a “Jellyroll?”
The Fabulous Poodles had several catchy songs, though they only released two albums. I can remember rock critics at the time hailing them as the “new Beatles.” But they also said that about Rockpile (one album) and even the group who sang the theme song from the Friends tv show.
Anyone else here like the Fabulous Poodles? I have their second album on vinyl and picked up a greatest hits CD off the net a few years a go. I was disappointed that Tit Photographer’s Blues wasn’t on the CD, though other good ones, like Mirror Star, Work Shy and B Movies are on it.
