Well, I have Santa’s Favorites anise-flavored cookies, which are what Jingles are called now. Keebler makes cookies that are called Jingles, and that look like Jingles, but do not taste like Jingles. Since “Santa’s Favorites anise-flavored cookies” is cumbersome to write, I will hereby refer to them as Jingles*. The star stands for “awesome.”
I was recently heartened by a discovery of Salerno Butter Cookies at Wal-Mart, and so was emboldened to look there–against my better tastes, as I do hate Wal-Mart–for Jingles*. This was last Friday; no dice. After doing some internet research, I determined that Jingles*–which I knew had changed names–were previously being distributed by Archway. Archway went bankrupt and was purchased by Lance, Inc–you know, the people who make the cheesy crackers. Lance, Inc has started redistributing the Salerno products, which is why I was able to find Salerno Butter Cookies at Wal-Mart.
Their website listed an 800 number for ordering products not carried at one’s local store, so I called. The person I spoke to said that they weren’t making Jingles* anymore. Disappointed, I asked (nicely!) if I could make the suggestion that they make them again, as they are awesome and have a loyal following. She transferred me to their consumer affairs division.
The woman I spoke to there must get many calls about Jingles*–hardly surprising, as they are king amongst the Christmas cookies. No sooner had I said, “and I think that you should make them again” that she chimed in with, “oh, we still do! We just shipped them out last week. They’re only in Illinois, though.”
“That’s cool. I’m in Illinois!”
So, this evening, I went to Jewel. They had a huge endcap of Jingles* (as well as the Salerno gingerbread men and almond crescents). Now I have Jingles*.
And now those of you in the Chicago area know where to get them!
(I posted this in Cafe Society because Jingles* are in fact food. This is pretty Mundane and Pointless, though).
