"Chicken Noogie" and "Ministroke"

These were the soups du jour at the corner deli today, according to the hastily scrawled blackboard.

Those sound like things your big brother does to you when you’re 6. “CHICKEN NOOGIE! CHICKEN NOOGIE!” “OW OW OW STOPIT! MO-OOO-O-OM!”

Ministroke sounds super fatty and delicious.

That’s nothing. My sister took a photo of the blackboard at her job’s cafeteria a few years ago. The special was ‘Filly Steak Sandwich’.

And she works at a library!

You got something against horse meat??

When I worked at a deli we briefly had a flavor called Cheeseberry and Raz.

You sure you don’t mean liberry?

For giggles, I will take photos of the hanging menus in our cafeteria and post them so people can PALA the misspellings.

Our COLLEGE cafeteria.

Yea, it’s a community college. That’s still a college, sparky.

According to the signs, our school cafeteria frequently served “chicken sand.” I used to tell the students that “chicken sand” was really small chicken nuggets. The lunch ladies didn’t like that.

Did they ever serve Chicken Sand Dumpings?

Maybe they’d just gotten another copy of My Friend, Flicka for the children’s collection.

We used to wait with bated breath for the cafeteria in our building to e-mail the daily menu. The two that stand out in my mind were the Chickens Frenchaze and Cord On Blue. No joke.

I assume the ministroke soup is supposed to have a fly swimming in it?

My college cafeteria would re-use the signs that told you what each line was serving. I hated mexican nights because it meant I’d have to see that damn sign.

Tacos

Enchiladas

Burrito’s

What. The. Hell. How do you get through two thirds of the damn sign and then trip at the finish line? Stab. Stab. Stab.

In a school cafeteria, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of burritos rising up through the air

Up ahead in the distance, I saw a poorly written sign
My arm grew stabby and my eyes got red
But I couldn’t lose my place in line

There she stood in the doorway
The lunch lady from Hell
And I was thinking to myself,
“It would be Heaven if she’d just learn to spell”

Maybe it was just really big and filled you up.

It’s late and it’s the Eagles, but I’ll give you a round of applause anyway. :stuck_out_tongue:

Campbells Cream of Gristle and Turkish Prison Surpise were never bit hits.

One deli I used to frequent had a menu painted on the wall above their counter. Until they remodeled, the menu contained items such as “ham and Sweese” and “muffines”.

To be fair, English probably isn’t the primary language among the staff.
