You are the first (and so far only) lame - but brilliant - dork on the list. That is a special thing, you know.
And the advantage of the museum trip is getting to spend the day with Yours Truly.
Hell yeah, you need to bring Gino out that night. Tell him we’re weird but nonthreatening.
Brilliant!
That’s close enough. I’ll consider it.
If Demo’s going, I’m going.
Actually, I’m just saying that to boost Demo’s ego. I’m going no matter what. Especially if there’s an 80’s party involved. [robot voice]I love the 80’s (strikes back)[/robot voice]
All I know is, $135 US is $180.77 Canadian at current exchange rates. Two more rolls of nickels and I’M THERE. I’ll sleep on a bench at Lincoln Park or summat.
(Seriously, if I can work a family visit into that time frame, and can convince ms.'vark to let me go play with the scary net people, I’ma try to be there. Further bulletins as events warrant.)
Here’s info on the Chicago International Youth Hostel:
http://www.hichicago.org/whatsnew.htm
It’s smack in the middle of downtown; you couldn’t ask for a more convenient location. Reserve early!
And I swear I will call Reza’s and see what kind of arrangements we can make there, as soon as I’m thinking about it at a time when a) it’s not in the middle of their lunch or dinner rush, and b) nobody is busting into my office every 30 seconds. I’m going for a) cheap and b) flexible, so hopefully nobody who wants to watch their pennies will have to shell out bucks for a fixed package dinner.
Also, public transport informaiton:
There are unlimited 1-day passes available at a few locations for $5. More good stuff as I think of it.
- Since you’re Canadian, I’ll give you the discounted out-of-towner rate.
- You should! We have pork here.
I’ll be at the Cubs-Cards game that weekend. . .are you in the bleachers? Hmmm…
Also, if there is enough interest, I might be convinced to lead an excursion on Sunday evening to the Uptown Poetry Slam. It’s great fun – sort of the Gong Show of free verse. It’s at the Green Mill, a jazz club originally founded as a speakeasy and once owned by Al Capone. Post here if you’re up for it! Further info:
May I put myself on the doubtful list? It’s not very likely, but depending on circumstances, also not beyond the realm of possibility.
Oh HELL no I won’t be in the bleachers – I’ll have my kid with me, and I’d prefer his tender 10-year-old ears not be sullied by vile chatter or doused in beer. We’ll be in section 205.
So what’re ya doing with the little tyke during the potluck?
Also add me to the “doubtful”, but really, really, really hope I can somehow miraculously make it. It’ll hinge a lot on whether there are last minute cheap fares up there and how busy I am for work at that point.
For those of you who are considering it, I strongly encourage you to give it a go. Great folks, great times, friendly people. And what a stunning hostess! You can’t beat it with a stick.
I was thinking I’d have him pass around cordials.
Count me in. Saturday afternoon plans uncertain, as I may be working, but there shouldn’t be any problem with dinner, drinking and revelry. Gundy, I’ll be taking the train out to your place Friday; I presume directions will be posted later. I have tentative plans for Sunday, but I’ll see what I can do about them.
I’ll e-mail directions once we get closer to the date. Which reminds me:
CHIDOPE CELL PHONE & E-MAIL LIST
Let’s start a list of cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses so that people have contacts in case plans go awry, as well as directions to places, blah blah blah. Send yours to ekgund at hotmail.
doesn’t seem to be much interest in the mini golf…thankfully, The Bunny Hutch has not bothered to return my call.
Good work Bubba!
Dunno if they run it on weekends, but that Reza’s has a freakin’ awesome lunch buffet…
Give it time, snapchest. Give it time.
