It’s the first day of real life ops here in the Adriatic Sea.
Two and a half weeks at sea and we’re finally going about the country’s business. Though we Sailors may bitch and moan about underway time and being away from our families; the food; the isolation; the crappy little jobs that pile up – it great finally being able to do the job that we have been trained to do. There’s a spring in just about everyone’s step as we anticipate a tough job being completed in an exemplary manner.
Missiles on planes; planes in the air; planes over Kosovo/Serbia/Yugoslavia – your tax dollars hard at work supported by 15,000 American sailors.
The ladies are well represented too. The Eisenhower and CVW-7 deployed with 754 female officers and sailors – the most ever for a deployed carrier!
Norfolk in 164 and a wup!
“Though I hate 'em, I’ll defend to my death your right to use smilies.”
Forward deployed until 18AUG00
Morning Chief, or whateverthehell time it is in the Adriatic. You guys (and gals, I guess) can take pride in an honorable job well done. Be safe and stay out of the way of those Jet Blast Deflectors.
That takes me back. I always used grab a fast lunch in the forward mess after the first launch of the day because I knew I wouldn’t get a break for the next 10 hours. I could go for one of those hockey pucks on a bun right now. Do they still have the pickled cauliflower and pearl onions that substituted for fresh vegtables?
Good on you and your shipmates Chief. Keep up the good work and return whole.
