"Children don't reach their full potential until their parents die."

Where have I heard this quote recently? I’m almost sure it was from a TV show or a movie.

Shows I’ve been watching lately include BSG, Heroes, The West Wing and Six Feet Under. I’ve seen a few recent movies as well.

Anyone know?

Battlestar Galactica, regarding Lee Adama.

Do you happen to know who said it, and the context?

I actually came back to say it was probably Wanted because it seemed to fit in with that movie… now I’m confused.

I have actually been pondering a very similar question. I have a quote in my head and I dont know who to attribute it to.

It was something along the lines of “A boys inheritance is to witness the death of his father.” or something similar. For some reason I want to attribute it to Cormac McCarthy, but I don’t know why.

I think Badger said it when he was engineering Apollo’s rise to power in one of the last few episodes, when both Bill and Laura were AWOL. I may be wrong, though.

“In order for children to reach their full potential, their parents have to die.”

I thought it was Leoben who said it originally, back when he was holding Kara captive back on New Caprica. Referring to the Cylons coming into power, and killing the humans. Then she repeated it to Lee, but this time referring to him.

But I could be wrong…

Six also said something similar to Doral back in the first season when they were on New Caprica and watching Sharon and Helo from a rooftop.

Its apparently a theme for this show
