It was beautifully clear last night, so we thought we’d have a cold one this morning. The bird bath has frozen over, and the frost (at 9.06am) is still thick on the ground in places, though melting quickly enough as soon as the sunlight reaches it.
Man. It hit ~34C (40 with humidity figured in) here today, and the solstice is still about a week away. A Priest I know owns land in NZ, so he now enjoys perpetual summers (he’s originally from Texas, where 37C days are not uncommon during the summer).
-3C? That’s cold for you? In winter, I’m happy to see that as a high!
I could brag about our lovely summers here but you would hate me, though my expat Aussie coworker complains every year that we don’t actually have summer here. I’d agree with her except that I love winter and she hates it, so we have very differing tastes in weather. I’ve lived in mostly hot and humid places most of my life and I am so happy to be away from that.
ETA: That sounds like a lovely autumn morning to me. I find temps around and just below freezing to be invigorating. We won’t see that again for another few months.
Thats what I get for being so Amerocentric.
I saw the thread and was like -4C what the hell?
Where do these people live?
Oohh N.Z. I did not think in terms of cold weather down there. Plus the whole southern hemisphere thing
Hmm. So…if it’s almost summer here, it’s almost winter where the OP is, right? If so, that kind of negates the whole “it’s not that cold!” idea, because that’d be pretty cold for the first two weeks of December even this far north. That’s more like January weather here. How cold will it get by late July?
Brrrrrrrrrrr…
Looks like this morning frost finally knocked off my pumpkin plants - the yacon is still going strong though. I’m hoping for some really cold weather so I can harvest - I love yacon
It took a couple of threads like this for me to remember Cuncator’s location, Beerman1963. We’re not all in the US, let alone the Northern Hemisphere. It’s fun.
My very first thought when I saw the title was “-4C? My god, man, where do you live?” Then I saw the OP’s location, and it all made sense.
Because man, I’d be PISSED if it was -4C right now. Hell, I’m annoyed that it’s 60F where I live (or 15.55C, I guess, to keep with the spirit of the thread). I want to wear short sleeves, dammit!
Sydney has never recorded a sub-zero temperature. The lowest ever recorded in in Bowral, where I was over the weekend, is about -8. So -4, is very cold by our temperature standards.
You must be out west, it was warmer here in the inner west, about 3. Ish. Give or take a bit.
I wanted gloves, anyway, which I don’t own cause it’s not cold enough, and my husband dug out his beanie and wore a scarf at the same time, which means it’s really cold!
I totally wanted a doona day, though. Damn being a responsible adult!!
Was a lovely crisp day, Baby From Mars and I went for a walk through a couple of Melbourne parks this afternoon to look at the fallen leaves before settling down in a cafe for a latte. I also put the electric blanket on the bed this morning, so we’re all ready for winter! Damn, I’m going to miss being on maternity leave…
