Chistmas Eve twins for China Guy

thanks for the links and i’ll try to get to them when on line. i’ve been doing this thread via pda.

serena suckled 25 cc or about an ounce yesterday afternoon. she then decided to stay awake for 7 hours. she was very alert. don’t want to read too much into it, but sure seemed like serena was fully alert and interested in the world for the first time. even exhibited soe rooting motions for the first time ever.

these days she is good for 10-15 cc via suckling even when practically asleep.

Wonderful! That’s such good news.

China Guy, I’m going to pass along something I read in Reader’s Digest. Take it for what it’s worth.

A woman was delivered of twins. One was fine, the other was sick and not doing well at all. The doctors had about given up hope when a nurse got the idea to put the healthy twin in the same crib as the sick twin.

The two cuddled up together and later that day the sick twin began to recover. Doctors don’t know how or why, but “twin” therapy may be something you want to consider. After all, the babies shared a womb for months. Serena may gain some comfort in being close to her sister again.

Good luck.

doing great china guy, keep it up.

we’re here for you. rant away if you need to do so.

Sending all my best thoughts! She’s so lucky to have such a caring father and family! When my son was born he was healthy but had some feeding problems. I was so passive, I didn’t know what to do; he felt like the hospital’s baby, not mine. So different from how I hear you doing things (and believe me, if I had it to do over again, I’d follow your example).

His problems weren’t like Serena’s so I won’t even try to give advice, just sending good wishes and sharing my confidence that all will be well.

making progress. serena’s personal best is now 45 cc from the nipple! she’s erratic though, especially at night. she also swallows great and i put 20cc down her via syringe squirt in the mouth and her swallowing in 2 minutes. we can basically feed her without the tube from 7:30 am to 10:30 pm, but those two middle of the night feeds aren’t there.

hopefully the haberman bottle will not get held up at customs and arrive soon. i think that will do the trick. hate to haza5d a guess but should be home soon.

trying to put the twins togethe as much as possible. big sis also is involved (more hinderance than help but great bonding for her)

i start work tomorrow from the hospital room assuming i get a loner laptop. should be okay as i’m mainly just moral support and the staff here is great.

One question. Has your wife been putting Serena to the breast at all? Unfortunately the suck mechanisms on bottle and breast are entirely different and you may find that she will end up suckling on the bottle and then still have trouble at the breast. I am assuming that your goal is eventually to get her to breast? Are you working with a board certified lactation consultant? They can be a great help in situations like this too.

I am really glad to hear that Serena is doing better and sending suck strong vibes her way!

those haberman bottles are the bees knees. serena sucked down 75 cc tonight!

my wife get;s terrified at the thought of going home. stuck a deal with the doc that if serena can orally intake 60 cc every 3 hours for 48 hours, then it’s time to pack our bags.

china wife has also had 3 nights of unbroken restful sleep in a row. she needs more but this is doing a world of good.

trying to breastfeed but little success with serena. audrey is fine for limited breastfeeding. frankly, all i care about is that serena can injest efficient ly whether staight from the tap or bottle.

i;m back at work, so not as hands on as i would like.

anyhoo, we’re all improving

Back at work? Man, no rest for the wicked, huh?
I hope you get your bottle soon enough.

If there is anything you need from the states ( besides money or a grand piano) let me know.

Hows the little one and the rest of the family doing these last few days?

You’re always in my thoughts.

serena continues to improve. sucked down 75cc for a personal best yesterday. her color, actions, reactions, crying, etc all look very normal and pretty much in par with twin audrey.

will be very hands on this weekend and see how it goes. we just need to get a daily average down her even if some individual feeds are lite.

the haberman feeder is awesome

Go Serena!

Glad to hear she’s doing well.

I’ve been away for about 9 days. YAY Chinette !!!

Just you wait- when she’s 4 and sucking gustily from a bottle of water on a hot day, you’re gonna look at her and tear up and think, " I remember when seeing you do this was all I wanted in the world".

I’m so glad this is going so well for you all.

I’ve been busy with this snow storm and something called A Life, but I had The Chinette’s ( and Trisk’s Sweetie Pie) in my thoughts the entire weekend.

YAY!

pulled out the feeding tube yesterday. Serena has gone 48 hours without anything through the nose! Doc is just confirming that she has decent weight gain and that we are ready to have her at home. Certainly this week, and could be in 1-2 days. I’ll definately start another thread when that happens.

Wonderful news! And very best wishes for continued progress.

Someday this will all be a foggy memory.

yay!!!

Always in my thoughts,

Wow! How did I miss this thread for so long?

Congratulations on your new babies, Chinaguy, and I’m glad to hear that Serena’s doing better.

I’m so happy for you and your wife. Go Serena!
