Chocolate stars - I need a source in the Chiburbs

For Christmas I would like to make those cookies called Peanut Blossoms. You know, the soft little round ones with the chocolate candy on top. Now at our house there is an ongoing debate about the right kind of candy, but since I’m making them, I claim the right to choose. So, stars it is, not kisses.

That being the case, I need to get some somewhere. Wal Mart, Target so far are no-go. I haven’t found them at Dominick’s, either. I’m south of I-80, so please take that into account, but I’m getting desperate here. Apparently Amazon has them, but I don’t need 5 pounds and I’ll just be tempted to eat the extras.

Please help. Kisses just don’t look as purty.

Just in case it gets truly impossible around here, my husband might be able to pick them up in Milwaukee if anybody there can tell me where. He’ll do it for me, even if he does prefer kisses on the cookies.

I can’t swear to it, but I think the chocolate stars are made by Brach’s, in which case, you may be able to find them at Walgreen’s.

I bet this place has them. You can buy in any quantity you want. Oh, the memories of being a kid and visiting the Popcorn Shop!

They are Brach’s. I’ll try Walgreen’s and if that doesn’t work, I guess I’ll be ready to go farther afield.

Here they are. I did a quick store search on their site based on the ZIP Code of the city in your profile and every store hit had them in stock.

Unfortunately, the stars at Walgreen’s are the mini ones in that hundred calorie pack. They’re too small. I’ll keep looking and if I can I’ll make the trip to Wheaton. Thanks, all.

I couldn’t swear to it, and I’d phone before driving anywhere, but Cost Plus World Market might have them. There’s one in Orland.

Wait, didn’t Brach’s go out of business? :confused:

ETA: Or maybe they were bought out…I know their factory closed. Didn’t know you could still get the chocolate stars!

Orland Square Mall has a candy store that carries them, or used to. I think it’s called Buy the Weigh, you purchase everything based on how much it weighs.

I’ve always seen those at stores like Fleet Farm and Menards that sell sweets and nuts in 1 Lb bags. I love me some toffee peanuts!

I know those stars. They have rice crispie bits in them, right?

If Macy’s still has their candy department, you might be able to get them there.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I never did find Brach’s stars, but the mention of Fleet Farm made me think of Blain’s Farm and Fleet, which is probably similar. So I made the run to Bradley today, having checked their website, and got two bags of their own store brand. So Peanut Blossoms the way they ought to be. Thanks, all.

Sarahfeena, I think maybe Farley’s bought out Brach’s. You can apparently still get stars by order, but I didn’t have that kind of time.

mmouse9799, unfortunately, Buy the Weigh is gone. My daughter checked the possibilities at Orland, and no stars. And I guess no Jelly Bellys by individual flavor anymore, either. I did love that place.

I don’t know if it’s like this where you are, but the Super Target in Warrenville has Jelly Bellys by individual flavor. It’s a pretty impressive display for a Target, as well.

Ah, I moved to Boston a few years ago. Alas, I didn’t know the store was gone.

But, I’m from Bradley.

The only time I’ve seen any of these in the past 15 or so years is in 1. something called a Chocolate Emergency Kit in a food catologue 2. in 100 calorie packs that I only spotted once. I wish they were still common, I used to love the things when I was in elementary school.
