The article seems very well cited: (sourced principally from the respected Wrestling Observer written by Dave Meltzer) the details regarding Daniel’s death, if true, seem particularly grisly…

Meltzer isn’t all that respected in some circles, nor does he always concern himself with facts. Which is not to say that he is off base in this case.

According to the “Wrestling Observer Newsletter,” Chris “used the lat pulldown machine in the basement of his home gym, took off the bar, put a cloth around his neck, and then tied the steel cord around his neck. He stuck a pin in a heavy amount of weight (240 pounds according to the Nancy Grace show on CNN), far more then his own bodyweight, and somehow or other, used his arms and the jumping of his bodyweight down to pull more than his weight down to where he hooked his legs around a heavy dumbbell (which was on the ground underneath him as he was hanging), which would have been enough weight to keep him down. He then would have likely spread his legs, and without the weight of the dumbbell, the heavy stack of weights due to the gravity imbalance, flew down, lifting him off the ground into the air, and hanging him to death.”

Thanks. Glad I could inject a little humor into this awful story.

Speaking of injections, it’s been reported that Benoit loaded up on testosterone right before he hanged himself. Can anybody shed some light on this? 240 isn’t a lot of weight on a typical machine with knee bars, especially for a lat-master like Benoit. Would he have needed testosterone to get the noose down?

I don’t believe the reports are saying that he “loaded up right before”… they are saying that he had elevated levels of testosterone in his body, and that they were possibly for ‘theraputic’ reasons.

Also, I thought I read that the weight machine that he used was a ‘portable’ one, in which case 240 is probably pretty close to max for it.
