If you don’t have it already, go get HBO. It was that funny.
“A black C student can’t even be manager of McDonald’s. A white C student just happens to be President”

I don’t know. It seemed like he recycled several of his old bits. Nothing new in the comic world but I was expecting more from him.
His whole ‘white people don’t want brown people to deal drugs so they won’t become rich’ made me roll my eyes really hard.
He had several good points on what separates wealth from being rich though. I wonder if he’ll take his own point being rich himself.
I saw bits of it just now. It’s definitely powerful and there were parts that were quite funny. But some of the hyperbole is going to end up being quoted as fact, I can just see it.
(Slightly paraphrased as I can’t remeber all of the exact invective)
Rock’s point is that there were long standing policies that retarded the abilities of blacks in America to get ahead. That’s hard to argue with. However, AFAIK, there was never a government policy to put to death those who could read.
I thought it was funny on the whole, but I think he was resting on his laurels a bit. I loved the critiques of marriage toward the end.
“Nelson Mandela was in a South African prison for 27 years! He got his ass beat every day for 27 years! He got out and was with his wife for 6 months and said, ‘I gotta get the fuck outta this!’”
Can’t wait to see it…taped it tonight and will watch tomorrow.
However, it makes me a little uneasy to hear a rave review by someone whose board name is Really Not All That Bright…I’ll just asume you mean you are still waiting for that big score from the nice guy from Nigeria who contacted you about this plan to make some big bucks
I generally like Chris Rock, but sometimes I wonder if a white guy could get away with his sometimes, somewhat-mean-spirited generalizations about race…I know, he is often on target, but still…there are the occasional zingers that seem borderline. Imagine a white guy trying to slam blacks the same way…
That said, I taped the show, and am looking forward to seeing it. Chris Rock is still one of the funniest comedians out there…
Geez…I just realized how mean-spirited THAT seems…I was just joking, but it fell flat…(me, with the name of an outdated German currency should talk about board names…)
Memo to self: Get off high horse.
I only watched the first 45 minutes. I bowed out after the" white man doesn’t want the brown man to sell drugs" bit. Just didn’t think it was very funny, at least not half as funny as his last HBO special. Couldn’t believe he actually made the “you know women at pro-abortion rallies are at least fuckin” joke. That was done 15 years ago.
No kidding. How said is it that Chris Rock is ripping off Kevin Smith? That bit was much funnier coming out of Jay’s mouth in Dogma.
This concert had a few funny moments, but it was a huge step down from his previous two standup specials.
I did like the “hypocrisy of democracy” bit.
Ahh that’s where it’s from!
I’m pretty sure Chris Rock did that abortion bit on his “Born Suspect” album, released in 1991. Dogma was released in 1999.
I had a chance to see this live here in Phoenix back in January.
I’ve been telling everybody since then…I’ve been to about 12-15 live comedy shows in my life, with an average of about 3 comedians at every one, and this was the hardest I’ve ever laughed at one.
I’m hoping it holds up on tv but I haven’t seen it yet. I’m also wondering what, if anything, was cut.
