I always liked Christiane Amanpour

I never did care for George Stephanopoulos. I don’t mind his views I don’t think he has much talent as a host or anchor. It’s more about his style and delivery into the camera than his qualifications.

Anyway, I always thought Amanpour was pure class and I hope she’ll do well

What do you think?

I think Amanpour is an extremely good international correspondent, an increasingly rare talent in journalism. She may very well be the best in U.S. journalism when it comes to the Middle East.

However, I also think it’s a damn shame that ABC news is planning a paywall for their Internet content, and will also be eliminating at least five jobs in their Washington bureau this summer, while paying a high salary for Amanpour. From a financial standpoint, there’s a limit to how many more viewers she can bring to a Sunday morning show. It’s also an admission by ABC that, after using Jake Tapper, Terry Moran, Jonathan Karl, Barbara Walters, Elizabeth Vargas, and Matthew Dowd as fill-ins on This Week, they don’t have anyone good enough to take the show on permanently.

Finally, Amanpour works best in the field. Her experience with CBS and 60 Minutes makles me think she’ll find the structure of a traditional network news organization too stifling, and wind up back at CNN, where they pretty much let her do whatever she wants.
