Christina Applegate quits "Up All Night"

Did you ever see Running Wilde? That would probably be closer to what you want from Will. His character was pretty much a slightly less self centered GOB (and his dad was even played by Jeffrey “George Sr.” Tambor in a guest appearance).

Jenna Elfman?

Currently in 1600 Penn – which probably doesn’t have any brighter a future than Up All Night, but still unavailable.

I’ve always enjoyed the show. 90% of its charm, though, came from the interaction between Applegate and Arnett. They had great chemistry, and I loved that the show never became “about” the baby; it was always focused on Chris and Reagan as a couple. I tuned in to watch them together.

Rudolph can be very funny as a side player, but the show suffers when she takes too much of the focus. And the brother character never landed for me at all. With Applegate gone, they might as well just scrap the whole project.

I’m baffled by the decision to move to a multi-camera, live-audience format. They think that will increase ratings, or is this purely a financial decision?

My wife and I loved the show, especially the first season. It helps that we’re the same age as Applegate/Arnett, and have young kids. It was nice to see a married couple who were a good team together and really loved each other, and struggled with feelings of being inadequate parents. Mia was okay as a side character.

The second season was not quite as good - too much of Mia hanging around, they added the brother for no apparent reason, and the plots got a little too sit-commy.

Hugely disappointed to hear them going to a three-camera setup. I’d rather see them cancel it, especially without Applegate.

Kill it with fire.
Talented people that just couldn’t find a way to make the show work.
I watched it sporadically and each time I’d tune in they had clearly re-tooled the show.
Suddenly the chipper assistant was gone, suddenly Maya Rudolph had another love interest, suddenly Arnett runs a construction business, suddenly there’s a brother who is around all the time, suddenly Maya Rudolph went from being an Oprah boss to being Reagan’s best friend and there all the time.

Some of the early episodes and some of the episodes that focused on their relationship were pretty good. Now it just seems ruined by committee.
